This guide is about the How to Add the Date to the Menu Bar in Mac OS X. I will try my best so that you understand this guide very well. I hope you all like this guide How to Add the Date to the Menu Bar in Mac OS X.
You can customize the menu bar clock in the upper-right corner of your Mac to include more than just the current time, and one of the most useful things to add is the current date. This is especially useful on OS X, because if you don’t have Calendar open all the time, you really have to click the clock to drag it to the menu to see the date and day of the week on your Mac.
Show the current date in the Mac menu bar
Modern versions of OS X make customization very simple, and the current date is displayed alongside the current time. Here’s everything you need to make this possible:
- Go to the Apple menu and open System Preferences
- Go to the Date and Time preferences panel, and then click the Clock tab
- Change the box next to Show date so that the date appears immediately in the menu bar
- Exit the system profiles if you are satisfied
Selecting the date in that box will immediately display:
As you can see, the date appears next to the clock, but the actual day of the week is truncated by default to fit the Mac menu bar. The year is also not displayed by default. If you want, you can change it (and other options like adding emos to style the clock a bit) by visiting the “Language and Region” dialog and clicking Advanced.
Another option is to install a third-party application, such as Day-O, which provides a full calendar of OS X menu bar, the feature, which is so useful that, frankly, it should default to build the Mac menu bar.
This is the same in all modern Mac OS X incarnations, from 10.6 onwards through OS X Yosemite 10. But of course we don’t forget the old versions, so if you’re still in the older generations, you can still make this adaptation …
Adding a date to the menu bar in earlier versions of OS X.
This is taken from an article published some time ago, it is included here because it is still relevant to some Mac users with older machines:
Depending on the version of OS X you are using, the exact parameters may be slightly different, but it is the same concept. In fact, earlier versions of OS X do not put an option on date and time settings. Instead, really old versions need to launch System Preferences and then go to the “International” preferences box followed by the “Formats” tab … then click the “Customize” button in the Times pane. Similarly, to display the date in active format, extract the date information from the International -> Formats -> Dates box. Here you can change the appearance of the time format, add a date (in the format of your choice) or add a custom message.
The “International” formats also allow for some additional actions on the clock item in the menu bar, even if you select the customize button. You can either paste the items to be displayed or even add static text if you want, such as “bollyinside rules!” or something like that. The end result can really be what you want.
Thanks for the hint idea Steve!
