Amazfit GTS 4 Mini review (2023) a lightweight fitness tracker

The build quality is pretty good and Battery life is fantastic.

With its low-cost wearables, Amazfit never fails to win our hearts. Even though they don’t have all of Wear OS’s features, they do a lot for what you pay for them. We like both high-end and mid-range smartwatches made by Amazfit. The GTS 3 in particular made a big impression because it kept the right balance between price and features. Even though the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini costs the same as the older GTS 3, the newer Amazfit GTS 4 and GTS 4 Mini have a lot to live up to.

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini: Description

When the package from Amazfit showed up at my door, I took off my prized Pixel Watch and put on the simple GTS 4 Mini. The change was big, which may have changed my mind a little bit. But I had already tested the GTS 3, so I used that as a fair comparison standard.

At first glance, the cheap and cheerful Amazfit GTS 4 Mini seems to be the same as the Amazfit GTS 3. When you look more closely, you can see small differences between the old model and the new one. The GTS 4 Mini has a smaller 1.65-inch AMOLED screen, but it is still bright and clear. The colors have nice depth, and sunlight doesn’t make it hard to see the screen at all.

The GTS 4 Mini is a light wearable, which makes it very comfortable to wear for a long time. It is also quite small, but it is built to last and can resist water up to 5 ATM. You can quickly switch out the universal 20mm bands. Since the pin connector is so common, the GTS 4 Mini can be used with almost any 20mm band with the same pin connector.

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini review

When I look at the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini, the first thing I notice is how elegant it looks, especially for the price. One of the best things about this smartwatch is the 1.65-inch HD AMOLED display. Even in direct sunlight, this screen is bright enough to make scrolling easy. The “Wake on Wrist Raise” feature always works, but it takes a little longer than on other smartwatches I’ve used.

When I swipe right from the main watch face, I can see a long list of trackers. I see the usual suspects that keep an eye on my heart rate, blood-oxygen saturation, and stress level. I’m surprised there isn’t an increase as I rush to finish this copy before the deadline.

The GTS 4 Mini can keep track of your heart rate at all times and can also spot an irregular heartbeat, which is usually a feature of more expensive smartwatches. According to the Zepp app, my sleep score of 70% was the lowest of all users. And, ironically, that’s something that will keep me up and thinking for a few nights now.

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini: Health Features

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini review

The Amazfit GTS Mini has a heart-rate monitor that works for 24 hours, a blood oxygen saturation monitor, a sleep monitor, 120+ workout and sports modes, and a swimming mode. It is also water resistant up to 5ATM. On the other hand, the smartwatch has different ways to challenge yourself, such as a virtual pacer, training load, and training effect.

For me, running outside was the most common workout mode. When I ran outside, I could track workout time, pace, heart rate, calories, distance, and more. When I looked at the data after the workout, I thought it did a pretty good job of keeping track of everything.

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini: Software

Talking about how the Amazfit smartwatch software worked, it was very smooth and easy to move through the menus and apps, and swipes were also picked up correctly. Also, Amazfit gives us a lot of apps with watch faces, widgets, and settings that we can change to our liking.

On the other hand, Zepp Life, which is owned by Amazfit and works with the phone, is a compatible app. In the app, we can find a lot of health information and more ways to customise our smartwatches. For example, we can give our smartwatches access to different permissions and notifications, change our health settings, and more.

Performance

Before we talk about how well the watch works, let’s look at how well it connects. The Bluetooth 5.1 standard is used to connect the Amazfit GTS 4 mini, and we never had any trouble pairing the watch with our phone. The connection was rock solid and easy, so there was nothing to complain about there.

The watch’s user interface (UI) was also pretty smooth, though it would sometimes jump around. As we said before, the watch feels a little slow because it doesn’t have a 60 Hz display, which takes away from the overall experience.

The activity tracker is the most important part of any fitness watch. During our tests, we found that the watch’s heart rate and step counter were pretty accurate. But there were times when the watch didn’t count all of my steps. This can be fixed in a future software update.

We also liked that the watch can track your sleep. It is accurate, easy to understand, and gives you a lot of information about the quality of your sleep. Support for SPO2 is a good feature, but if you just want a device to measure your oxygen levels, you should buy a medical device instead of the watch. On top of that, the watch has 105 sports modes, such as running outside, treadmill running, swimming, Zumba, and more.

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini: Battery Life

One of the best things about the Amazfit Smartwatch GTS 4 Mini is how long the battery lasts. With my normal use, which is to track my outdoor running with the GPS and wear the smartwatch all day, even when I’m sleeping, the battery lasts for more than two weeks. Also, the magnetic charger that comes with the smartwatch takes about 2 hours to fully charge the watch.

Price and availability

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini review

In July of 2022, Amazfit showed off the GTS 4 Mini smartwatch. Most stores, like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart or Amazfit’s website sell the GTS 4 Mini for $120. Most of the time, you can find the mid-range smartwatch for $10 less.

The Amazfit GTS 4 Mini is available in four different colours. You can choose from Moonlight White, Midnight Black, Flamingo Pink, and Mint Blue. In these variations, a gunmetal grey case is paired with black bands, a rose gold case is paired with light pink bands, a silver case is paired with light mint bands, and a light gold case is paired with beige bands.

Final words

I think the most impressive thing about it is how long the battery life is. It lasted so long with moderate use that I forgot when I charged it last, which was almost 10 days ago. With the magnetic charger that comes with it, it only takes about an hour and a half to fully charge from nothing. Needless to say, of all the things you might own, this is the one you’ll plug in the least.
