Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review

The Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED series is a good TV overall. It is best suited for watching movies or series in dark rooms thanks to its excellent contrast ratio and black reproduction. It is a good gaming TV with low input lag and a good selection of gaming features.

The Amazon Fire TV Omni is a mid-range quantum dot LED TV that distinguishes itself from rivals by placing a focus on smart home connectivity. Alexa serves as your deputy in The Omni, which serves as a command hub for all Amazon-integrated smart home devices, such as Ring doorbells and Echo speakers. It basically succeeds in this, although TVs in this price bracket or below have better picture quality, software, and gaming features.

It can perform all of Alexa’s sophisticated voice assistant’s functions thanks to its integrated hands-free Alexa feature. Additionally, it turns into an always-on (or mostly-on) screen that may serve as a very large picture frame and displays widgets to keep you informed about the weather, forthcoming events, and other information.

In comparison to the typical Alexa-integrated TV, the Omni has more tricks up its sleeve. Among other things, you can utilise hands-free voice commands to search for material, change inputs, or open applications. However, the Omni also integrates seamlessly with a variety of smart home devices powered by Amazon, a strategy that is expected to appeal to people who already share their home with Alexa.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Design

Current high-end TVs have an unobtrusive aesthetic, and the Fire TV Omni QLED is no exception. A thin 1/4-inch gunmetal grey bezel surrounds the screen on the sides and top, and a 3/4-inch brushed metallic strip runs along the bottom edge. The far-field microphones and the mic mute control are located in a black protrusion on the lower bezel.

Two metal V-shaped legs are closer to the sides and support the TV. This may rule out some smaller TV stands because it requires a base that is as least as wide as the legs. Additionally, it works with common VESA mounts. The somewhat more expensive but dated style of the Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED Series. Although the metallic finish on the front bezels is attractive, there is some distracting white space between the side and top bezels and the initial pixels.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Brightness

Peak brightness in SDR and HDR was measured at roughly 575 nits using Calman Ultimate software, a Murideo Seven G pattern generator, and a C6 Colorimeter profiled to an i1 Pro 2 Spectro. The TV could only display that much brightness in all of the picture preset modes. The TV hides its backlight behaviour quite well, even off-angle, which is a credit to good backlight and blooming control. Amazon states the TV has 80 local dimming zones for this 65-inch model.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Color

We measured some rather large mistakes in terms of precision in the colour performance. Again, if this TV was priced similarly to the TCL 5-Series ($250 less at 65 inches and $300 more at 75 inches), we’d be a little more forgiving of its poor colour accuracy. However, don’t take these accuracy claims to imply that the TV has bad-looking colour. You won’t likely notice that this TV’s colour is odd when you look at it, in my opinion. In no way. In fact, we found that the colour output was generally well within acceptable bounds.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Smart Features

A variety of sensors are included with the Fire TV Omni QLED, enabling more sophisticated functions. Amazon has developed a brand-new ambient TV experience. When you’re not actively watching something, that can display a wallpaper and educational widgets. One of the sensors, a radar-based presence sensor, can recognise when no one is present and turn off the ambient display entirely. It can then turn the display back on when someone enters the room. It’s a cool feature, and Amazon wants to utilise it to stop your TV from becoming just a large, empty box in your living room when you’re not using it.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Connectivity

The Omni has a conventional range of connectivity choices that will function with the setup of the average user, although A/V enthusiasts should be aware of the restrictions in this area. Only its specialised eARC connector has the HDMI 2.1 designation, leaving three of its major inputs as HDMI 2.0.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Sound Quality

Given Amazon’s expertise in creating smart speakers, the fact that the Fire TV Omni QLED produces respectable sound for a TV shouldn’t be a surprise. Despite having only two channels, the speech was audible, and it even created a small amount of bass. It sounded about as well as an Echo when playing music. However, the TV lacks virtual surround sound capabilities and does not support Dolby Atmos. Your setup would benefit from having a nice soundbar.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Performance

The Fire TV Omni QLED features full array local dimming with 80 zones. Quantum dots are also used to create a more vivid image. Additionally, it supports Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HLG, and all other common HDR formats.

The Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED worked ok in regular use, in my opinion. The colours were vivid and the images were sharp and precise. If you’re searching for a TV with the best image quality in this price range, it is worthwhile to consider a Hisense alternative.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Gaming Support

It has three HDMI 2.0 inputs and one HDMI 2.1 input that is designated for the TV’s eARC functionality. Although Auto Low Latency Mode and Variable Refresh Rate are there, the Omni doesn’t allow 4K gaming at 120Hz because of the TV’s 60Hz panel. That isn’t very shocking at this price point. (One thing to keep in mind: the Hisense U7H, which we’re testing, is substantially less expensive than the Omni and is said to handle 4K gaming at 120Hz.)

However, if you’re more of a casual gamer, the Omni will serve you just well. If you want to immerse yourself in next-gen gaming over the course of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 lifecycle, it could be worth looking at the U7H, U8H, or TCL 6-Series for more flexibility.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED review: Pricing and Configurations

Unfortunately, there are just two sizes of the Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED available: 65 inches and 75 inches. Smaller sizes have not yet been announced by Amazon, but maybe they will soon. Keep in mind that prices will frequently be reduced, and they may even be reduced during the forthcoming Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Particularly for TVs of this size, these are reasonable prices. However, it does imply that the Hisense U7H and TCL 5-Series, among others, are competitors of the TVs.

Conclusion

A reliable TV is the Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED. The ambient mode is one of its unique qualities, and the image quality is generally good. If you place a high importance on image quality, you should choose for the Hisense U7H or the even superior U8H.
