BenQ EX2710Q review

The EX2710Q is a great monitor in every respect except contrast, which is only average. However, the detail reproduction is top notch. In first-person shooter titles, the extra motion makes up for the difference in pixel density compared to an Ultra HD monitor.

The BenQ EX2710Q is a gaming monitor that acknowledges the beneficial overlap in requirements between gamers and creative professionals, not merely in terms of hardware. The monitor’s features are beneficial for both creatives and gamers, whether they are working or playing. With a 2560 x 1440p IPS display operating at up to 165Hz, the EX2710Q is undoubtedly a sharp, quick-looking monitor (especially at 27 inches, which is really a sweet spot at this resolution). Competitive gaming demands a 1ms reaction rate, and this monitor even supports 2K on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The EX2710Q adds certain extras that make it stand out from the crowd despite having specifications that are now quite common for QHD gaming monitors. Built-in dual 2W speakers with a 5W woofer are among the extras, which is a major benefit for those of us who haven’t purchased computer speakers in a long time yet want to game with anything other than a gaming headset.

Many capabilities on the BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710Q monitor are more appropriate for creative professionals or people who spend a lot of time playing games or engaging in other creative activities. Owners of the PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5 can all enjoy 2K gaming on this display, which also functions admirably for lengthy sessions of picture and video editing.

Despite the fact that the EX2710Q is $550 USD more affordable than other 4K alternatives, this monitor essentially spoon-feeds its consumers preset display parameters for improved eye care. Two HDMI ports, one Display port, one audio port, and two USB ports are all included with the EX2710Q.The EX2710Q comes all the typical features of a mid-range 1440p high refresh rate monitor, including a 165Hz refresh rate, an IPS screen, DisplayHDR 400, FreeSync Premium, and a reported 95% coverage of the DCI P3 spectrum. All of that may sound very familiar, but there are some omissions that constitute lies, starting with DisplayHDR 400.

BenQ EX2710Q review: Design and Features

With its blend of svelte lines and tastefully harmonized accents and colors, the BenQ EX2710Q has a stylish appearance that is both upscale and gamer-focused. The monitor is distinguished as a gaming display without being overly garish by its matte black appearance with gray and red highlights. Because there are no bezels on the display, you may enjoy a distraction-free, nice-looking screen.

Even though the monitor’s stand appears excessive for a 27-inch panel, the monitor’s overall size is small. The V-shaped base provides plenty of room in the middle for your smaller peripherals while only requiring 9.9 inches of depth. Although it weighs only 16.3 pounds, you’ll feel its heft when you lift it up because of the thick panels and sturdy frame.

The BenQ EX2710Q has excellent build quality because of its sturdy construction and high-grade materials. The plastics feel heavy and solid, so even with moderate effort they won’t easily flex or break. The stand is solid and robust, so it won’t sag or wobble while you’re engaged in combat. Despite the greater cost for this option, the package does not come with a remote like the EX3415R does. Instead, you get a responsive OSD joystick, which is acceptable because it’s much simpler to operate than buttons. In addition, the display has specialized buttons for its unique capabilities, such HDRi, making it more user-friendly than other options.

The majority of monitors include their branding or emblem in a black notch on the bottom bezel, which you will also notice. This component hides the light sensor, which controls how the screen is adjusted by the Brightness Intelligence Plus and HDRi capabilities. It’s good to have, but if you manually adjusted the display, it can throw off your calibration settings.

For your convenience, the stand that comes with the BenQ EX2710Q can tilt, rotate, and adjust in height. Even without a pivot, it’s simple to find a comfortable viewing angle because this monitor wasn’t made to be a side-facing portrait display. VESA mounts are an option, but they are not necessary unless your workstation is small or you have many monitors available.

BenQ EX2710Q review: Display

The strong stand, which has height, tilt, and swivel adjustments, reflects the high quality of the monitor. The EX2710Q’s inability to pivot into portrait position, however, may be a drawback if used as a supplementary monitor. There are two HDMI 2.0 connections and one DisplayPort 1.4 on the BenQ Mobiuz EX2710Q. The average list of choices for a 1440p monitor looks like this. When using a 1440p monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 is not a problem.

When the OSD joystick of the EX2710Q is pressed, a fast menu with various modifications based on the image mode and input scenario appears. The baffling scenario feature is indeed back. Making adjustments to the picture mode, brightness, and audio level is simple with the fast menu. The Light Tuner adjustment is also included in some of the 10 picture modes here. Signal information, including the state of HDR, FreeSync, and Adaptive-Sync, is displayed at the top. The complete OSD can be opened if you scroll to the bottom.

BenQ EX2710Q review: Gaming Performance

The design and feature set of the BenQ Mobiuz EX2710Q are exceptional, but the image quality falls short of expectations. Although it appears nice, it doesn’t distinguish itself from other expensive 1440p gaming monitors. The monitor’s color spectrum, which in my testing spanned 100% of sRGB and 98% of DCI-P3, is likely its strongest point. This display exhibits the wide color range, oversaturated appearance typical of gaming monitors.

Although color accuracy is only fair right out of the gate, I believe most players will enjoy what they see. In Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, a game that makes up for its outdated graphics engine with superb art design and presentation, these characteristics help the monitor. The oversaturation of the EX2710Q makes carefully made ensembles stand out and makes dramatic sceneries sparkle.

The EX2710Q is an IPS edge-lit monitor, and as such, it has the issues that are typical of its kind. I measured a meager maximum contrast ratio of 820:1 and observed backlight bleed in three distinct locations. The monitor’s black levels don’t go much darker than an annoying gray.

The display is certified by VESA DisplayHDR 400, the lowest level of certification available, and supports HDR10. During my testing, the monitor’s maximum continuous brightness was 420 nits. Wide color gamut and this together can give showy HDR games more visual oomph. With HDR on, games like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5, which rely on vivid, clear, colorful graphics, looked especially attractive.

Final words

The BenQ EX2710Q gaming monitor features a stunning image with a quick refresh rate, built-in speakers, and even a few features that are sure to appeal to creatives. However, there are less expensive options if all you need is a 165Hz QHD gaming monitor, and for many people, USB-C functionality will be a deal-breaker.
