The Hakgala Garden is said to have been a pleasure garden given to Sita by the Demon King to ease her pain and is said to have been called Ashok Vatika.

Lord Hanuman’s footprints are also found on the temple grounds as this is also the place where Lord Hanuman came to deliver a message to Sita Devi. The footprints vary in size, indicating Lord Hanuman’s ability to transform into any size.

Near the temple there is a river called Seeta River where Devi Sita used to pray and bathe. About a century ago, images of three idols were discovered in the stream, one of which was that of Sita. Idols are believed to have been worshiped here for centuries. Next to it is another new temple dedicated to Hanuman, the monkey god.
