Best QLED TVs 2024: a treat for the eyes

QLED TVs have great picture quality and are a great deal for the money. Find the right QLED TV for your house right now.

If you’re looking for a great TV, I really think you should think about getting a QLED TV. I can say from personal experience that QLED technology, which uses quantum dots, really does show colors that are brighter and more vivid. This gives you a picture quality that is better than a regular TV and brings out the small details in your content. But the most important thing is picking the right QLED TV to improve your viewing experience, whether you’re watching your favorite show or playing games.

As a hybrid of LCD display and LED backlight technology, QLED overcomes common color accuracy issues, such as a faded “blooming” effect around bright spots in the picture. In less technical terms, QLED TVs offer a sharper, brighter picture than traditional LCD or LED sets. The best QLED TVs show just how far the simple LCD screen has come in recent years. The combination of nanotechnology and innovative new backlighting is creating TVs that rival OLED sets – and often at lower prices. From premium flagship models destined for the best home theaters to affordable sets that will liven up any living room, the best QLED TVs deliver a one-two punch of brilliant color and excellent contrast.

What is QLED?

QLED means “Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode.” It is a type of screen technology that is mostly found in high-end TVs and monitors. When compared to traditional LED/LCD displays, QLED TVs are known for having better color and brightness. Quantum dots, which are tiny semiconductor particles that can give off certain colors of light when they are given energy, are at the heart of QLED technology. Between the LED backlight and the LCD panel in a QLED display is a layer of quantum dots. When the LED backlight shines through the quantum dots, the dots give off light in specific colors. This makes it possible to see a wider range of colors that are more accurate.

How does QLED work?

QLED, which stands for “Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode,” is a type of screen technology that is mostly used in flat-panel TVs and monitors made in recent years. It was made by Samsung to improve the displays’ color accuracy, brightness, and overall visual quality. The QLED technology works like this:

Quantum Dots: Quantum dots are tiny pieces of a material called a semiconductor that, when exposed to energy, can make certain colors of light. Most of the time, these particles are made of nanometer-sized semiconductor crystals.

Backlighting: QLED screens have a backlight, just like many LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens. A light source is placed behind the liquid crystal layer of this backlight.

Color Conversion: One of the main reasons quantum dots are used in a QLED display is to improve the way colors look. The white backlight gives off blue light, which is then passed through a layer of quantum dots to make it less bright. Depending on their size and make-up, these dots are made to give off very specific colors. By changing the size of the quantum dots, red, green, or blue light can be made to come out of them.

After the light goes through the quantum dots, it goes through a layer of color filters. These filters help to make the colors even better and make sure that the right colors show up on the screen.

Best QLED TVs Comparison Table

For a few years, Samsung was the only brand that mattered when it came to QLED TVs, but today Quantum Dot enhancement is no longer limited to Samsung models. In fact, most TV manufacturers have jumped on the QLED bandwagon, using the same nanoscale, self-emitting crystals to enhance the picture performance of increasingly affordable 4K smart TVs.

The Samsung smart TVs Q60T QLED, also sold as the Samsung Q6DT at Costco and Sam’s Club, is the entry-level 4k QLED model of Samsung’s 2020 lineup. It’s a decent all-around TV, though it lacks some features you’ll find on higher-end models, like the Samsung Q80/Q80T QLED. It uses a VA panel with an excellent contrast ratio and exceptional black uniformity, so it displays deep, deep blacks, especially in a dark room.

The Samsung Q60T is a good all-around TV for most uses. It is well suited for daytime viewing, as it gets quite bright and handles reflections well. Despite the lack of local dimming, it is also suitable for watching movies in dark rooms thanks to its excellent contrast ratio and even black reproduction. This is the best QLED TVs you can purchase.

Pros

  • Good color accuracy and brightness.
  • Decent upscaling of lower-resolution content.
  • Affordable entry-level QLED option.

Cons

  • Limited local dimming, which affects contrast in dark scenes.
  • Lower overall picture quality compared to higher-tier models.
  • Limited viewing angles.

Easily, this is one of the best QLED TVs. The Q70A offers excellent contrast, rich colors, and a reliable selection of additional features, especially for gamers. Its biggest drawback is the lack of full-array local dimming – something that most of its competitors have. Without this hardware, the picture can look washed out and dull, especially in dark scenes. The Q70A also doesn’t support Dolby Vision HDR, which could be a sticking point for A/V enthusiasts, but is true of every Samsung TV at the moment.

The Q70A comes with Samsung’s new Solar Cell remote, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery that charges via sunlight or USB-C when things need to move quickly. Users can check the battery status of their remote at any time in the TV’s settings menu. The Solar Cell remote is also equipped with a streaming microphones for various voice commands.

Pros

  • Improved brightness and color compared to lower-tier models.
  • Better local dimming for improved contrast.
  • Good gaming features with low input lag.

Cons

  • Limited viewing angles due to the VA panel.
  • Black uniformity issues in dark scenes.
  • Slightly more expensive than entry-level options.

The Q70T is cut from a similar design cloth as its Q80T stablemate: it’s a pure business device with little frame. The frame is micro-thin, here on three sides, and the panel balances on a central T-stand if you buy a UK model, or on four legs if you buy one in the US. This is one of the best QLED TVs.

Picture presets include Standard, Dynamic, Natural, and Film, but if you want to get your hands dirty, you can explore the Expert settings, where you’ll find fun features like adjustable gamma. The set also supports Filmmaker mode, which can be selected from the Picture Mode menu.

Pros

  • Good overall picture quality.
  • Improved HDR performance compared to lower-tier models.
  • Gaming features like low input lag and variable refresh rate (VRR).

Cons

  • Some reports of blooming in high-contrast scenes.

The Hisense U6G is one of the company’s lowest-priced TVs, but it still offers a solid design. No, it doesn’t look as high-end as a much more expensive TV, but the edges are still relatively narrow, the feet are slim and elegant, and in general the TV looks good.

The feet themselves are plastic, unlike some other TVs in this price range, but it’s not cheap plastic and should still be able to hold the TV well. From a distance or at first glance, it doesn’t look cheap, so guests won’t be able to tell it’s plastic unless they get really close. Overall, this is one of the best QLED TVs.

Pros

  • Competitive picture quality at its price point.
  • Decent HDR performance.
  • Gaming features like low input lag and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM).

Cons

  • Limited brand recognition compared to Samsung and other major brands.
  • Some variability in panel quality.
  • Software and app ecosystem might not be as robust as larger brands.

The picture quality of the Q60A is typical Samsung, meaning it is as good as it can be for the technology used. Brightness is sufficient for HDR, details are excellent, colors are just right (and a bit warmer than the previous generation thanks to the aforementioned dual-LED strips lighttight), and contrast and blacks are… as good as can be expected without direct backlighting or zone dimming.

Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung’s own Bixby digital assistant are supported, and the company offers its own curated content with Samsung TV Plus. Also on board are unique Samsung features like Ambient Mode, where the screen mimics your wall based on a photo you upload, and the SmartThings IoT environment. For now, this is one of the most popular QLED TVs.

  • Supports a wide range of streaming apps.
  • Affordable QLED option.

Cons

The One Connect can accommodate four HMDI connections, all of which are 2.1 and support 4K 120 for gaming. There are three USB connections and of course Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Even if you mount it on the stand, the box fits nice and snug on the back. When you hang it on the wall, the thin display blends in perfectly.

The overall experience gives you beautiful colors, HDR like you’ve never seen before, and incredible contrast that makes you wonder how a QLED can bring its picture quality so close to an OLED panel. The TCL TVs Series 5 is not the newest for the company, that would be the Series 6 and Series 8, but when weighing which set was right for me, price was the most important point in the decision. The unit also comes with two feet that you can attach to the bottom to place it on a console, bookshelf, or wherever.

The Roku user interface also opens up more content. You can add all the popular apps from Disney+ to YouTube TV to Hulu to  movies on Netflix to Amazon Prime, of course. But you also have access to free Roku content, from news shows to movies. These also pop up on the screen when you pause a show, a screensaver that Roku uses to promote its own content.

Pros

  • Affordable QLED option with decent picture quality.
  • Good color accuracy and brightness.
  • Supports Dolby Vision HDR.

Cons

  • Limited local dimming affecting contrast in dark scenes.
  • Limited viewing angles due to VA panel.
  • Build quality and design might not be as premium as other brands.

The performance data below was collected during our test procedures, which are largely based on objective lab data collected with light meters pointed at the screen during test patterns. Currently, we use different meters to measure luminance (black and white data) and color, but both use the QuantumData 780a signal generator to send 4K test patterns to the TV.

The Q80A is packed with features and only available for large screens (55 inches and larger), so it’s only logical that it has extensive connectivity options. Here’s a look at what’s on the back of the panel. TVs don’t necessarily have to look elegant or aesthetically pleasing – most have been boxy and charcoal gray for decades, and no one has complained much. This is the best QLED TVs for you.

Pros

  • Improved picture quality and brightness compared to lower-tier models.
  • Better local dimming for enhanced contrast.
  • Strong gaming features with low input lag and VRR.

Cons

  • Limited viewing angles due to VA panel.
  • Slightly higher price point.
  • Some blooming in high-contrast scenes.

The U7G doesn’t break with design conventions or take many risks, but the result is a TV that doesn’t get in its own way. Although the wide nature of the feet means you’d better have a fairly large media console for the 65-inch version of this TV, it feels stable and sturdy once it’s in place.

Hisense has focused most of the front of the TV on the display: small bezels and a thin silver bar below the screen are all you really see. Hisense didn’t just flatten everything out either, giving some parts nice geometric edges that are reminiscent of the “aggressive” design of high-end cars without being too obtrusive. we like that. It has built some cable management into the U7G, but it’s not perfect.

There are integrated loops on the inside of the rear base on the left and right sides that do a very nice job of hiding a cable, but they’re not flexible and are awkwardly positioned. This means that the cable can be hidden well, but it was a bit difficult to position it properly. They’re also very tight: one HDMI 2.1-compatible cable and there’s no room to run another cable through the loop. we have to give Hisense credit for finding a solution here, even if anyone who has to insert more than one cable into the TV will feel disadvantaged. Currently this is one of the most popular QLED TVs.

Pros

  • Large screen size and good value for the size.
  • Competitive picture quality and HDR performance.
  • Local dimming for improved contrast.

Cons

  • Limited brand recognition compared to larger manufacturers.
  • Potential variability in panel quality.
  • Smart TV interface might not be as polished as major brands.

The only major difference between these models is the number of mini-LED backlights. The 55-inch model we tested has 128 backlight zones made up of hundreds of mini-LED lights. The 65- and 75-inch models offer up to 240 zones and up to 1,000 mini-LED lights due to their larger screens. This is one of the best QLED TVs that we have mention here.

The stand that comes with the TV consists of two feet that attach to either end of the set. They are quite easy to attach, and the design is good in that the mounts are easy to mark and only attach in the right places, so you don’t accidentally attach the right foot to the left side of the set and vice versa.

Pros

  • Good overall picture quality and brightness.
  • Supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10.
  • Offers great value for its performance.

Cons

  • Limited local dimming affecting contrast in dark scenes.
  • Some reports of panel uniformity issues.
  • Build quality and design might not be as premium as other brands.

How to choose the best QLED TV for you?

Choosing the best QLED TV for yourself means taking into account a number of factors that fit your needs and preferences. Quantum Dot LED (QLED) TVs are known for their bright colors, high brightness, and high-quality pictures. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you choose the best QLED TV:

Budget: Figure out how much you can spend on a TV. QLED TVs come in a range of prices, so knowing how much you can spend will help you choose.

Screen Size: Choose a screen size that works for your space and how far away you are from it. Think about where you’ll put the TV and how close you’ll sit to it. Larger screens make the experience more immersive, but they also take up more space.

Resolution: Most QLED TVs have a resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels), which gives a very clear picture. Some high-end models might have 8K resolution, but 4K is more common and usually good enough for most people.

HDR (High Dynamic Range): Look for TVs that can play HDR formats like HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG. HDR improves contrast and color, making the picture look more real and lively.

Color and Picture Quality: QLED TVs are known for having colors that are bright and true. Check reviews and ratings to see how accurate the colors are and how good the picture is overall. For better contrast, look for models with a wide color gamut and local dimming.

FAQs
