Sony’s Extra Bass audio products are more aggressive and energetic, appealing to both audiophiles and neutral listeners. They are designed for those who want a good listening experience in everyday life. The recently introduced WH-XB910N headphones are the successor to the XB900N, which launched in 2019.
Sony ships its new 910N headphones in 2 colors – blue and black, both of which are very basic. The headphones we received were blue and looked pretty standard. There is nothing special about the design or color of the headphones, as they are not meant to be flaunted as a fashion accessory.
The build quality of the device is pretty raw and basic. The plastic casing feels smooth and is sturdy enough to last a long time. Apart from being durable, the device is also very lightweight thanks to the plastic casing. It can be worn for a long period of time without hurting your ears or head.
The headband is equipped with foam padding covered with soft leather to ensure a comfortable wearing experience. The ear cups are very large and cover my ears completely. They have soft foam pads that cover the ears well and feel comfortable even after hours of use. The ear cups are adjustable, so if your head is larger or smaller, you can flip the ear cups around to make them easier to use.
The headset has only 2 physical buttons – one for power and the other for switching between ANC and listening modes. There is a USB Type-C port for charging and a 3.5mm jack for wired connections. The XB in the name stands for Extra Bass, which can be felt when listening to songs with lower frequencies. If you listen to songs with a lot of bass, these headphones are good. The bass, treble, and midrange all sound good when you listen to music at full volume.
Speaking of volume, the 40mm drivers get pretty loud at full volume. In a room with a lot of people and noise, even a volume of 80% worked well. ANC is one of the most important features in any audio device these days. Since the 910N is part of Sony’s WH series, it has an effective ANC system that stays true to the company’s heritage.
They offer a good passive seal and two microphones ensure that noise cancellation is active as well. Although in a busy environment like a coffee shop, street, or office you may notice a certain amount of ambient noise, in a quieter location the headphones are a pro at cancelling out noise from a fan, air conditioner, or other equipment. The XB910N is equipped with Bluetooth 5.2, which connects it seamlessly to most devices and allows for clear and crisp audio transmission even when you’re 25 steps away from the audio source.
One of the most useful features of these headphones is the Bluetooth multipoint function. This means that these headphones can be connected to two devices at the same time. This means that while you are watching content on your tablet, you can easily take a call on your smartphone. Google Fast Pair is also supported, but for almost instant pairing with Android devices.
