Christmas Sale: Skullcandy Crusher Evo in just $149.99 at Best Buy

The Skullcandy Crusher Evo Wireless are high-quality wireless over-ear headphones. They’re built with a bass-heavy sound profile in mind, and you can even use their haptic bass slider to add extra boom and punch to your favourite music. They have a long continuous battery life of 34 hours, and their companion app includes a few EQ presets to help you customise their sound. Unfortunately, they do not isolate against a wide range of background noises, making them unsuitable for use during a commute or in a noisy office. However, if you want simple headphones with a bass-heavy sound profile, these are a good option.

While the Skullcandy Crusher Evo is simple to use, there are a few issues that make it less convenient than other options. The Skullcandy Crusher Evo has a soft-touch plastic exterior that is durable enough to withstand a few trips to the bottom of my backpack. The only non-plastic component of this headset is the headband, which is made of soft rubber and felt.

You do not need to download the Skullcandy app to use the headphones. While the app is rather basic, with only three standard equalisation options (music, movie, and podcast), it does have two useful features. The first useful feature is a hearing test, which measures your hearing and then adjusts the EQ or headphones as needed.

Everyone hears differently, and many people may suffer from Noise-Induced Hearing Loss and be unaware of how severely it affects their hearing. A tool like this aims to improve the experience by tailoring the sound to how you perceive sound. True, this isn’t a novel tool, but it’s encouraging to see more audio companies taking this approach.

The second useful feature is built-in Tile functionality, which is activated via the Skullcandy app. Tile is a service that allows you to track small objects by attaching a small beacon to them. It’s typically used for items such as keys or wallets, but being integrated into the headphones allows you to locate your headphones.

To use this feature, you must, of course, grant the app permission to track the location of your headphones at all times. So, while the functionality is definitely cool, whether or not you trust Skullcandy or Tile with your location data is entirely up to you. If that doesn’t sound like a feature you want, you can always deny location permissions and never enable the feature in the first place.

For the most part, the Skullcandy Crusher Evo’s connection is excellent. It supports Bluetooth 5.0, as well as SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs. Unfortunately, there is no aptX or LDAC support, so you will have to look elsewhere for higher-quality streaming services.
