Deal on Yamaha YAS-109: $219.95 is now available for $179.95

From 2019, the Yamaha YAS-109 is a 2.0 set-up. It’s the next version of the Yamaha YAS-108/ATS-1080. It has an Ethernet port, six EQ presets, an Alexa voice assistant built in, and Wi-Fi. Still, it has a lot of the same good points and bad points as its predecessor. Even though it has two built-in subwoofers, it still can’t make a deep bass sound.

Also, to play surround content, it has to “downmix” it to stereo, which makes it sound less immersive. Still, it can’t get very loud, but at max volume there aren’t many compression artifacts, so the sound is pretty clean and clear. Here are a few features that make this Yamaha bar better than cheaper ones like the Vizio SB3621n-G8, but Alexa is the most important one.

Features:

  • Clear, crisp sound signature
  • Multiple sound modes
  • Alexa and Spotify Connect built-in
  • Wi-Fi connection

With Amazon’s smart assistant built in, the soundbar quickly becomes (almost) as useful as any other smart speaker in your home. You can ask the soundbar for the weather or news, set timers, and even ask it to play your favorite Spotify songs (the bar also features Spotify Connect).

Alexa can even switch sources, which is great if, for example, you want to switch between a video game system and your Smart TV. (At the moment, features like drop-ins and announcements through your smart speaker collection are not part of the package.)

How to get Yamaha YAS-109 Sound Bar?

Alexa is also great because you can use voice commands to mute or change the volume. This is great if you don’t want to get up and get a remote. Yamaha says that later this year, you’ll also be able to use the soundbar as part of a larger multiroom speaker setup. The bar has Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS Digital Surround, and DTS Virtual: X technology, which is meant to expand the soundstage in both the horizontal and vertical planes.
