Download Photo Stream Photos to Folder on Mac OS

This guide is about the Download Photo Stream Photos to a Folder in Mac OS X. I will try my best so that you understand this guide very well. I hope you all like this guide Download Photo Stream Photos to a Folder in Mac OS X.

Photo Stream is a nice feature of iCloud that automatically pushes all your photos to your other iOS devices and Mac with iPhoto or Aperture. If you haven’t used it before, this means that if you take a photo on your iPhone, it will automatically appear in the photo stream on iPad and also in iPhoto on your Mac. Oddly, it’s not possible to select an item other than iPhoto or Aperture on Mac OS X, but with this great trick, you can set up a folder and then download all the pictures from iCloud to your Mac without iPhoto or Aperture.

Using the following script requires at least iOS 5 and OS X 10.7.2 or later, as well as configuring iCloud and enabling Photo Stream in iCloud System Preferences in Mac OS X.

Save a photo stream to a folder in Mac OS X.

  • Open the AppleScript Editor, which can be found at / Applications / Utilities / AppleScript Editor.app
  • Paste the following code into a new blank AppleScript window and replace “USERNAME” with a short username in the Mac OS X home directory:
  • tell “Finder” by setting this_folder to “Macintosh HD: Users: USERNAME: Library: Application Support: iLifeAssetManagement: resources” aliassset target_folder set to “Macintosh HD: Users: USERNAME: Images: MyStream as all files in this file whose name contains “IMG”) to the destination folder with a replacement experimental endpoint

  • This is what it looks like in the AppleScript editor:

Upload Photo Stream images to a folder in Mac OS X using AppleScript

  • Adjust target_folder variables as needed – Change “Macintosh HD” if your hard drive is given a different name, and change “MyStream” if you want the final directory to be something other than the name in the user’s Pictures directory – remember with AppleScript, Colon is not used and for writing and displaying folder paths
  • Run the script to make sure it works, and then save the command with an appropriate name, such as “PhotoStreamDownloader,” and select “Application” as the file format for easy access and launch later.

Now, to download Photo Stream to your Mac, just launch the saved script app and grab your latest Photo Stream photos from the Mac OS X configuration directory. For best results, place the application in the / Applications directory and add it to the Launchpad for easy future use.

The AppleScript Editor is fairly intuitive, and if you entered the directory or path incorrectly while trying to run the script, it will notify you with an “AppleScript Error” message. If you receive the iLifeAssetManagement: No Funds Found message, you have not enabled Photo Stream in the iCloud System Preferences panel.

Hopefully the upcoming update to iCloud and Photo Stream will allow us to choose where to upload the image directly, but until then, this great trick works great.
