How to Enable Siri “Raise to Speak” on iPhone for Hands-Free Responses

Use “Raise to Speak” feature on Siri to hear responses via ear speaker and operate your iPhone hands-free.

This guide is about the Enable Siri “Raise to Speak” to Hear Command Responses via Ear Speaker. I will try my best so that you understand this guide very well. I hope you all like this guide Enable Siri “Raise to Speak” to Hear Command Responses via Ear Speaker.

By default, Siri speaks the answers back through the iPhone and iPad speakers and often quite loudly. While the Siri volume can be adjusted regardless of the overall volume of the system, setting the Siri volume to a very quiet level is not a very great solution if you really want to hear the answers. This is made more difficult in congested situations or areas with a lot of background noise, because to hear the answer you have to set the volume quite high, which has an unwanted side effect of exploding responses to the world and is also likely to annoy those around you.

An excellent solution to this is to use Siri in what I want to call a ‘separate mode’, which causes Siri to speak responses through the ear speaker when the proximity sensor detects that the iPhone has been held and placed close to the ear. The feature is called “Lift to Speak,” and in practice, it makes Siri smart enough to know when answers can only be played from the headset in the same way you hear calls.

Turn on the “Lift to Speak” setting to use the Siri unobtrusively through the earphones

This feature is only supported on iPhone (at least for now):

  • Open Settings and go to General and then select Siri
  • Turn the switch to set “Raise to Talk” to ON

Lift to talk to Siri

The setting is immediately available, and you can try it by bringing iPhone to your ear, as if you’re talking on a phone that becomes a way to call Siri. It’s quite obvious because you hear the familiar double ping sound – even if it’s played through the upper speakers instead – which means you can give a command. As long as the iPhone is constantly held in the ear, the answer is spoken through the ear speaker. On the other hand, if you pull iPhone out of your ear after giving the original command, the answer comes through the standard speakers on the bottom of the device. Either way, this setting has no effect on calling Siri with traditional long presses of the Home button, and they will continue as expected.

Alternatively, if you have a pair of famous white in-ear headphones, Siri can be used entirely through headphones and in-ear headphones, bringing even more consideration to the answers the outside world hears. However, you still have to say the question or command orally, as there is no text-based interaction with Siri at this point in addition to editing and correcting command typos.
