3. Once in the display, click Detect. Here we are going to make Windows believe that a secondary display is already connected, even if it is not. It says “Display not detected”, but shows a blue screen – click on it.
4. Scroll down to “Multiple views” and click on the drop-down list. Then select “Try to connect to VGA anyway”.
5. Select View 2. From the drop-down list, select “Extend these views”. Click on the “Apply” button. A message will appear and say: “Keep these display settings?” Click on the “Keep changes” button.

You are now ready to use the secondary display to extend your desktop area with your Google Chrome browser and Chromecast.

1. Open Google Chrome on your desktop.
2. Before you can connect to your Chromecast by clicking on the Chromecast icon in the upper right corner of your Chrome browser, you must first click on the small arrow in the Chromecast icon area. From there, scroll down to “Cast Screen / Window (Experimental)”. Then select it.

As long as your Chrome browser is up to date, when you select “About Chrome”, it will notify you that you are using the most recent version of Chrome available. Otherwise, click the button to get updates when the option is given.

When your Google Chrome browser is up to date and ready to use, follow these steps:

1. Click the menu button in Chrome, then select Cast from the drop-down menu.
2. Once the “Stream to” box opens, select the drop-down arrow. You will be offered two choices: “Distribute tab” or “Distribute the desktop”.
3. Choose “Broadcast Desktop”. You will be taken to the main Chromecast selection box.
4. Next, select your Chromecast device. Ours keeps telling us that it is “impossible to mirror system audio” at this time.
5. Another box appears on the screen, asking, “Do you want Chrome Media Router to share your screen?” Click on the “Yes” button.
6. Your Mac desktop should now be extended to where your Chromecast device is plugged in.

Keep in mind that audio will still only be heard on your Mac, not your extended screen and audio setup. To listen to the sound on your TV, use a Windows computer.
