Check Fix ‘OnePlus Stuck on Boot Screen’ Issue

When the phone gets stuck on the Android screen, a bootloop occurs. Bootloop is very common in Android devices and it can happen for many reasons. Some of the most common reasons are flashing the wrong custom ROM, flashing a kernel that is not designed for your phone, or even failing to remove data after installing a new custom ROM. If you have done any of these things, you can lock or brick your phone, but in most cases you can get your phone back.

Fortunately, you can easily fix bootloop issue and soft brick phones. If your OnePlus One can go into recovery, you’re in luck. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset and click OK. This will reset your phone to factory settings and it will boot normally. However, if you cannot access recovery, you will need to enter fastboot or bootloader mode and install a stock firmware.

If you install the wrong ROM or kernel, the phone will not recover because the system is damaged. You need to update a new firmware to fix the problem. This process is also simple. You just need to download the proper firmware for your OnePlus One and flash it.

Perform a forced restart

If your OnePlus got stuck on the boot screen or entered a boot loop, a force restart can break the chain. It is essentially rebooting the device, however it uses hardware keys and brute force to do so. You need to find the key combination according to your make and model. What you have to do is press Power Button + Volume Down or Power Button + Volume Up to force a reboot.

Once you get the correct combination for your OnePlus 7 Pro, press and hold both buttons for 30 seconds until the phone turns off and turns off. Use the power button to reboot the phone after a few seconds and this should work. If not, you have an arsenal of other troubleshooting methods listed here to consider.

Boot into safe mode

A safe mode on your OnePlus 7 Pro is basically a safe boot place where all third-party apps and processes are stopped. Since the phone is almost in its original settings, you can test if a third-party app caused the device to get stuck in the boot loop. This is how you can try to fix the problem using the instructions mentioned below.

  • First, press the power button once to reveal the Power off menu and press and hold the “Power off” button for a few seconds. This is when you will get a prompt to enter “Safe Mode”, so tap “Yes” or “OK” to confirm.
  • Try uninstalling some recently downloaded apps and games from the system in the hope that it will fix the problem.
  • You can get out of safe mode by simply pressing the power button.

Upgrade/downgrade software

Assuming you tried to update to a newer Android firmware (could be a beta, incremental or major update) or considered an older version, you need to use countermeasures to fix your OnePlus stuck on boot screen. If you are trying to update to newer firmware, you must download the existing firmware from your OEM’s website or other sources. Likewise, if you were trying to downgrade to a previous version, you’ll need to upgrade to the currently available version to fix the issue.

You can use recovery mode to apply updates from the SD card. You can use the ADB tools installed on your PC and connect the phone to use “Apply update from ADB”. If you can get the phone on somehow, you can use the Software updates section through Settings >> About phone to upload the new firmware and install it. Please note that this may trigger the deletion of all user data, so be careful before doing so.

Wipe cache partition

Before you can take the important step and reset the phone (see the next method), try wiping the cache partition, which is not a very invasive procedure by nature. This is how you can do it.

  • Enter recovery mode on your OnePlus 7 Pro by turning off the phone. Use Power + Volume Down or Power + Volume Up and hold for 30 seconds continuously.
  • As soon as you see an Android logo, you can release the keys and boot into recovery mode.
  • Here, you need to select “Wipe Cache Partition” from the available options. Again, there’s no touchscreen here, so you’ll have to use the power button to select an option and volume up/down for navigation.
  • Finally, select the “Reboot system now” option and check whether wiping the cache partition made a difference or not.

Perform a hard reset

When you perform a hard reset, there are a few things you need to know. First, it will remove and delete all the data stored on your OnePlus 7 Pro and unless you use a data recovery program, you will not be able to recover the deleted data. Secondly, it is often considered as one of the powerful methods to fix any and all issues related to the software part, you will need a technician to address any hardware related issues. This is how you can perform a hard reset.

  • Turn off your OnePlus 7 Pro.
  • Now, you need to press Power + Volume Up or Power + Volume Down buttons together and hold them for 30 seconds.
  • Release both buttons once the phone boots into recovery mode.
  • You need to select “Wipe data/factory reset”. Here, you need to use the volume up/down and power buttons to navigate and select, as you cannot use a touch screen.
  • Then select “Yes, delete all user data” and the process will start.
  • Finally, hit the “Reboot system now” option and that should fix the boot screen issue.
