Both fuboTV and Sling TV are different, but they have some things in common that are important. Most importantly, both fuboTV and Sling TV are services that let you stream live TV from network TVs channels. They are similar to cable or satellite, but they stream online instead. At least for the basic packages, Sling TV is less expensive than fuboTV. But the base package of fuboTV has more channels than the base package of Sling TV. Add-ons, like premium channel add-ons and small add-on bundles, let subscribers of both services make their bundles fit their needs. Sling TV can be changed more than fuboTV, but both of these services can be bundled in more ways than competitors like DIRECTV.

Sports are what fuboTV does best.

FuboTV is better if you like sports, though Sling TV isn’t bad either if you don’t. Sling beats fuboTV if you want to watch a wide variety of premium channels. Sling Blue subscribers can stream Sling TV to more devices simultaneously than fuboTV subscribers can. Customers with a Sling Blue base subscription can watch content on up to three devices at once. But you can only stream on one screen at a time with Sling Orange, which is another of Sling TV’s base packages. The fuboTV packages give you 10 streams at once and as many screens as you want at home.

If you like to record shows on your DVR, you’ll like fuboTV. The most that fuboTV’s cloud DVR can store is 1,000 hours. Sling TV lets you record 50 hours of TV in the cloud. Sling TV doesn’t have HDR or 4K content that you can watch live or on demand. This kind of content is available on fuboTV, but only in a limited way. Most of the 4K HDR streams on fuboTV are for big sports events. Sling TV has more on-demand shows and movies than fuboTV. There are more than 60,000 movies and TV shows in fuboTV’s on-demand library. Every month, this on-demand content changes. Sling TV says that it has more than 70,000 on-demand titles, but this number could change.

Plans and pricing

Popular channels like AMC, Comedy Central, and Lifetime are available on Sling’s Orange and Blue plans, but they are geared toward different audiences: Sling Orange has a lot of kids’ and sports channels, while Sling Blue has more entertainment and news channels.

Our favorite plan, Sling Orange + Blue, costs $55.00 per month and gives you over 50 channels. But you can make Sling Orange or Sling Blue, which both cost $40 a month, fit your needs with add-on channel packages. More to come on that. The most basic fuboTV plan, Pro, costs $74.99 per month and comes with a good number of channels and cloud DVR space. We’d go with this one because it’s not too expensive for what you get.

The extra $10 a month for Elite doesn’t get you much more, but the Premier plan is interesting. It combines the Elite package with three add-on packages, including Sports Plus (with over 25 more sports channels) and SHOWTIME (with nine more premium channels), for $94.99 a month. FuboTV is a streaming service that can be used on almost any device you can think of. This includes Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S gaming consoles, Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, different smart TVs, Chromecast, and even browsers like Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and others. The list of supported devices is always growing, but the most important thing to know is that you probably already have a screen at home that can stream content through fuboTV.

Sling TV can also be watched on a number of different devices. These include AirTV players, Android TV/Google TV, Apple TV, Google Nest, a large number of smart TVs, Roku streamers, Chromecast (Sling TV will even give you a free Chromecast with Google TV when you pre-pay for just one month of service), iPhones and iPads, Android mobile devices, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and a lot more. Sling TV has free apps for phones and tablets, just like fuboTV. And the list of devices it works with is always growing, making it easy to watch your favorite shows and movies on any screen.

The Blue plan and the Orange plan are Sling TV’s two base plans. Both offer many of the same entertainment, sports, and news options, as well as their own channels. In both plans, you can watch channels like AMC, CNN, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Food Network, HGTV, Lifetime, Nick Jr., TBS, and TNT. Sling Orange is different from Sling Blue because it has 31 channels and ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3 instead of just ESPN. Discovery Channel, E!, Fox Sports 1, Fox News, National Geographic, and MSNBC are some of the few channels that are only available through Sling Blue.

People are told that Sling Orange is best for sports fans and families, while Sling Blue is best for people who want to watch news and entertainment. But each plan has some sports coverage that the other doesn’t have. If a subscriber really wants a good mix of channels, they should think about the Orange & Blue package, which has all 48 channels.

All of FuboTV’s plans start with 152 channels, and the more expensive ones come with extras. Base channels include ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and Telemundo, as well as their local affiliates. Lifestyle and sports channels like HGTV, Comedy Central, MTV, TLC, the ACC Network, and the Big 10 Network are also available. There are a lot of sports options on Sling TV. But fans will find it hard to use outside of the NBA. For example, Fox, NBC, Fox Sports 1 (FS1), NFL Network, and truTV are all available on Sling Blue. Sling Orange has ESPN. So you either have to choose one or pay $55.00/mo. for Orange + Blue. Even worse, the Sports Extra has 13 channels, but 5 of them are different depending on whether you have Sling Blue or Orange. But if you have Orange + Blue, you get all 18 and pay $15/mo instead of $11/month. Now you’re paying $65/mo, which is the same as Fubo or one of the other big services.

FuboTV has some problems of its own. They stopped carrying Warner’s channels, like TBS, TNT, and truTV, which show a lot of NBA and MLB playoff games, as well as NCAA March Madness games, to save money. All three are included in Sling’s base package(s). Still, Fubo stays true to its roots by having the best international sports coverage. RSNs, or regional sports networks, also deserve some thought. Sling doesn’t have any, so if you need them, you can’t use Sling. The Bally sports networks are only available on DIRECTV STREAM, not on Fubo.

But it does carry most of the others, like NESN (New England), Marquee Sports (Chicago), AT&T Sportsnet, MSG (New York), and ROOT Sports. Fubo also has the NBC Sports Regional Sports Networks (RSNs), but if you only want those, you might want to sign up for Hulu + Live TV instead, which costs the same and has the Turner networks as well as the NBC RSNs.

At the end of the day, either streaming service is a good choice. Sling TV is great for people who want to stream but don’t want to share their account with other people. fuboTV is better for big families and TV fans who want to watch all of their favorite shows. And fuboTV is the clear winner if you need different profiles for a family with different tastes.
