Google Bard is Google’s answer to ChatGPT, but it is also different. It’s humble and charming, very helpful, and always willing to say sorry and admit it’s wrong. It seems like the robot is just as happy to talk to you as you are to talk to it.

Compared to other chatbot models like Bing AI and ChatGPT, the time between typing in a question and getting an answer from the bot is incredibly fast. Bard was quick to react no matter what we asked it to do, whether we wanted to know how it was trained and how we could interact with it (did someone say Alexa integration? ), or if we wanted it to review a product that didn’t exist. We asked Bard to write a review for a makeup product that doesn’t exist, and her answer is both funny and makes us wish the Flimmery was a real thing. It’s pretty amazing how much it grew from our short challenge and how it filled in the blanks for the fake product.

Other robots let you wait while they “think” of an answer, but Bard gives you long answers in an instant. We can’t wait to talk to Bard more and find out what else it can do, but so far, we’re very happy with what we’ve seen. Intellectual property theft is serious. As plagiarism concerns grow, governments are more likely to act. The EU is considering a new AI legislation bill that would require Bard and ChatGPT to cite sources in responses. Since Google amended its privacy policy to allow its AI products to scour the internet for public data, it may be needed.

AI worries about more than plagiarism. Google Bard’s Adobe Firefly-powered AI image-generation may contribute to the growing problem of fake AI photos. Google’s Fact Check Explorer makes bogus photos easier to spot. This Google service has been available for years, but you can now upload photographs to check for fakes.
