Grand Theft Auto V review

Grand Theft Auto V is not only an absurdly entertaining video game, but also an intelligent and cutting satire of contemporary America.

Grand Theft Auto V is an adventure action game played from either the third-person or first-person perspective. Players complete missions linear scenarios with set objectives to advance in the story. Outside of missions, players can move freely in the open world. Grand Theft Auto is an open-world action-adventure sandbox video game series and one of the longest running video game series published by Rockstar Games and developed by its subsidiaries Rockstar North, Rockstar Leeds, Rockstar Toronto and Rockstar Lincoln.

The first games were developed by Rockstar North and BMG Interactive. The first game in the series was released in 1997. In the Grand Theft Auto series, players take control of criminals and try to improve their reputation by completing missions in various virtual cities. The first game in the series offered a simple bird’s-eye view of the landscape, from which the player could observe and carry out car thefts, robberies, shootouts and other forms of crime.

When the player approached a vehicle and took out the driver, he could take control of the vehicle, change the radio station and do as much damage as necessary to achieve the objectives. Later games in the series offered improved graphics and different game modes. Strategically placed video clips develop the plot and give each title its own story and characters. The possibility of moving freely through cities, combined with complicated and challenging levels, made Grand Theft Auto one of the most innovative and popular games of the late 1990s.

GTA 5 Settings

GTA 5 may be relatively old, having debuted on PC in 2015, but it’s still as popular as day one. At the time of release, high-end rigs had trouble running the game at high and ultra settings, but recent advances in CPUs and GPUs have made running GTA 5 much easier. GTA 5’s open-world is huge, which can lead to long loading times. To combat this, we recommend installing GTA 5 on an internal SSD, which will drastically reduce the time spent staring at loading screens.

If you have trouble maintaining a stable or high frame rate, try switching the anti-aliasing option from MSAA to FXAA or simply turn the setting off altogether. Post-FX settings like Bloom, HDR lighting, and heat flicker can also have a big impact on performance. Keeping these settings a notch or two below the recommended settings can increase speed.

Texture quality has only a minor effect on performance. So if you want the game to look decent even on a less powerful system, you should be able to keep the texture quality relatively high. If you lower the shader quality, it will only have a minor effect on the graphics, but it can provide a performance boost.

Other Requirements

Rockstar Games Social Club (13+) Network login is required for installation and online play; software, including Rockstar Games Social Club Platform, DirectX, Chromium, and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 sp1 Redistributable Package, as well as authentication software that recognizes certain hardware attributes for purposes of eligibility, digital rights management, system, and other support, is required for activation, online play, and periodic eligibility verification.

Serial code registration is required only once via the Internet; registration is limited to one Rockstar Games Social Club account (13+) per serial code; only one login per Social Club account is allowed at any time; serial codes are not transferable after use; Social Club accounts are not transferable. Over time, system requirements for this game will change due to downloadable content and programming changes. Some system components, such as mobile chipsets, integrated graphics cards, and AGP, may be incompatible.

Graphics

The GTA V in-game graphics settings are your first port of call to improve graphics and fix low FPS. Unless you have a gigantic gaming PC, you’ll need to find a balance between smooth graphics and image speed. With the low-end PC settings for GTA 5 shown here, you can play the game even on a normal computer that is not optimized for gaming. GTA 5 automatically adjusts graphics and FPS to your hardware.

The video memory bar at the top shows you how much the game uses your graphics card. Higher settings will make the graphics look cleaner and more detailed, but will use more memory and probably lower your FPS. In the second image, the textures are much sharper, giving a more realistic feel. But if you can do without these subtleties, lower settings will give you a massive FPS boost in GTA 5.

On A Mission

GTA veterans will still recognize how the game works behind it. There’s a basic set of narrative missions that the player must complete in order to progress, but beyond that there’s a wide range of dynamic encounters, side quests, and money-making, from buying real estate to managing clubs to playing the stock market (which cleverly reacts to in-game events and allows you to earn extra money by buying the right stocks at the right time).

Most story tasks are variations on a theme drive somewhere, shoot something, drive back but as with all feedback loops in video games, the joy of the system is in the execution. And boy, does GTA V execute. To say more would spoil the fun of exploring, but rest assured, there are insane stunts, massive destruction, military weapons, and you’ll have to jump out of planes. And out of helicopters.

Combining the sheer size of the environment with the excellent physics engine, you’ll be asked to do everything in these escapades, from bank robberies in the countryside to chases with jet skis to operating huge industrial machines. The bigger heists require small preparation missions that help build the tension and subtly reinforce the feeling that we’re all acting in our own version of Michael Mann’s movie Heat here. Even though certain ideas are repackaged again and again, you’re swept along by a rush of euphoric action and shock mostly because the world looks and acts like it all makes sense.

Final Words

The Handbook is the official application for Grand Theft Auto V. It contains more than 100 pages covering everything from game controls and features to a tour of neighborhoods and local businesses in Los Santos and Blaine County, as well as a special interactive version of the game map to enlarge and explore. Any discussion of Grand Theft Auto 5 must begin with scale.

Not with the size of the world or the weapons, vehicles and people in it, but with the sales figures: Since its initial release in 2013, GTA 5 has sold about 165 million copies worldwide on all platforms. That’s an elusive number. California is home to a little less than 40 million people. If copies of GTA 5 were people, the total number of copies sold would equal the population of Bangladesh. The game is unimaginably large in its impact and reach.
