Customization of themes
You can further customize these themes with Firefox extensions. One of the best is Personas Expression, which gives you a variety of additional customization options for Firefox themes. Open the Expression Personas page here, press the green button, and then restart the browser to add it to Firefox.
Then the toolbar will include an Expression Personas button. Press this button to open the sidebar shown below. This includes lots of customization options for the theme.
At the very top of the sidebar is a Change Text Color option. With this you can change the theme text colors. Click the option and then click the Color box to open the palette in the snapshot below. There you can choose an alternate text color for the tabs.
Right below this option, you can select a Edit Text Shadow checkbox. Click on it to open the color bar as below. Drag this bar further to the right to increase the shadow effect of the tab text. You can also choose alternate shadow colors by clicking on the palette area next to the bar.
Further down the sidebar are the toolbar and tab options. There there is a drawing title bar shadow option that you can select. This adds a shadow effect to the tab bar. Click on this option and on the active bars palette to choose a color for the shadow. Then you can adjust the width of the shadow effect by dragging the width bar.
There is also a Change tab color checkbox in the sidebar. With this, you can customize the color of the active (selected) tab as shown below. Click the Active Color box to choose a color, then drag this bar to configure the color.
Underneath there are other active window options. For example, adjust the background color of tab bar and toolbar with the Draw background color option. Select this option and click the Color box next to the slider bar to choose a background color from the palette. Then drag the bar further to the right to increase the new background color.
The Draw background texture option below which adds textures such as points, grid, and slant lines to the tab bar and toolbar. Click this option, then select the Pattern drop-down list to choose a texture. Then you can select a texture for the color by clicking on the Color Palette box below. Drag the scale bar further to the right to increase the scale of the texture.
Why not add a transparency effect to the theme? Firefox users can do this by selecting the transparent foreground option. Then drag the force bar further to the right to add more transparency to the Firefox toolbar.
Personas Expression also provides options to customize the theme of the inactive window. To try out these options, simply drag a tab in the Firefox browser window from the tab bar to an empty space on the desktop. This will then open a second Firefox window with the tab in it.
The selected window is the active window. You can now customize the theme in the inactive window. To customize the theme color of the inactive window, select the Draw background color option and click on its palette. Pick a color from there and drag the bar to adjust the color settings of the inactive window as shown below.
In addition, Firefox users can also select the transparent foreground and background texture drawing options for inactive windows. These are exactly the same options as those included for active windows, except that they will customize textures and transparency for inactive windows.back to menu ↑
