Fix:­ Outlook Notification Not Working on Smartphones

The mobile version of Outlook allows users to keep track of new items in their inbox, view received emails, and write new ones, all from their handy little phone! However, users have had issues with the Outlook mobile app where notifications for new emails are not working or not appearing correctly. Methods to Fix­ Outlook Notification Not Working Issue on Smartphones

Force close and reopen the app

Force-closing and reopening the Outlook app is a quick way to fix the strange problem of the Outlook app not syncing. Simply open the App Launcher on your Android or iOS device and swipe across the Outlook app card. Then, restart Outlook. In most cases, that should help get things back on track.

Reset email account

  1. Open Outlook and switch to the Mail tab.
  2. Tap your profile portrait at the top left of the screen to bring up the Outlook sidebar.
  3. Press the Settings icon.
  4. Choose the email account in the Email Accounts section.
  5. Select Restart account.
  6. Select OK to confirm.

Show calendars

  1. Switch to the Calendars tab in Outlook.
  2. Open the Outlook sidebar at the top left of the screen.
  3. Select the calendars that you want the application to display.

Check sync settings

  1. Open Outlook and switch to the Mail tab.
  2. Open the Outlook sidebar.
  3. Press Settings.
  4. Choose the email account in the Email Accounts section.
  5. Turn on the switches next to the Sync Contacts and Sync Calendars options. In Outlook for iOS, enable the Save Contacts option.

Provide permissions

Outlook may not sync / save your contacts or calendars locally unless you give the app the necessary system permissions despite configuring the app.

Provide permissions on Android

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Touch Apps & notifications.
  3. Select Permissions.
  4. Select Contacts.
  5. Turn on the switch next to Outlook.
  6. Go back to the previous screen and select Calendar.
  7. Turn on the switch next to Outlook.

Provide permissions on iOS

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and select Outlook.
  3. Turn on the switch next to Contacts.

Clear Outlook cache (Android only)

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Touch Apps & notifications.
  3. Select Applications.
  4. Scroll down the list and select Outlook.
  5. Select Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache.

Update the Outlook application

on Android

  1. Open Google Play Store.
  2. Open the Google Play menu and tap on the My apps and games option.
  3. Select the Update option next to Outlook.

on iOS

  1. Press and hold the App Store icon on the home screen and select Updates.
  2. Swipe down the Account screen to check for new updates.
  3. Select Update next to Outlook.

Disable power saving mode

on Android

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select Battery.
  3. Disable power saving mode or any equivalent setting on your device.

on iPhone

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select Battery.
  3. Turn off the switch next to low power mode.

Enable background app update

On iOS 16 or below iOS devices, you need to make sure that you have enabled background app update for Outlook. Otherwise, the app may not properly update your emails, contacts, or calendars while running in the background. And if you want to use iOS 16, you can do that by simply installing iOS 16 public beta

Go to Settings> Outlook and toggle on the switch next to Background app update, if it’s disabled.

Delete / re-add an email account

  1. Open Outlook and switch to the Mail tab.
  2. Open the Outlook sidebar.
  3. Press the Settings icon.
  4. Choose the email account in the Email Accounts section.
  5. Select Remove account.
  6. Select Delete to confirm.
