How to set up digital well-being on Android

Android’s Digital Wellbeing feature tracks your daily screen time, notifications, and phone unlocks. The Digital Wellbeing feature can be accessed through your device settings. You must enable it as it is not enabled by default. Here’s how to set it up.

  1. Opened Settings.

  2. Tap Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls.

  3. Tap the three-dot menu at the top right and select Manage your data.

  4. Activate daily use of the device.
  5. Your smartphone will now record app usage, notifications, and device unlocking.

Control your screen time

The Digital Wellbeing app has two types of tools to help you reduce screen time and distractions: ways to disconnect and reduce interruptions.

Ways to log out include app timers, bedtime mode, and focus mode. The Reduce interruptions sections have shortcuts to managing app notifications and Do Not Disturb mode.

How to set app timers

To cut down on screen time, you can set a daily timer for the apps you use the most, so that you don’t get caught in the rabbit hole of Instagram or playing a game when you should be working or interacting with others. Once you’ve reached the limit, you’ll get a notification that the timer has expired, the app icon will dim, and you won’t be able to open it until after midnight unless you manually turn it off.

  1. Tap Board.

  2. You will see a list of the applications you use most frequently. Touch an app to view screen time, notifications, and open hours in a daily or hourly clip. Touch the hourglass icon next to an application to set a timer.

  3. Set a time limit (all timers reset at midnight) and tap okay.
  4. To delete a timer, tap the trash can icon next to it.

How to set the bedtime mode

Bedtime mode helps you relax by silencing your phone and changing the grayscale of the screen, so you don’t stay up late scrolling through social media or reading.

You can set the bedtime mode according to a schedule or when you connect the phone to charge before going to bed. In both scenarios, you set a time to sleep and a time to wake up.

Tap Personalize for Do Not Disturb to be activated when you go to sleep and choose whether the screen changes to grayscale.
