- Right-click on Standard PS / 2 Keyboard and select Disable Device. If you don’t see this option, try a different method as explained below.

- If you cannot disable the laptop keyboard, enable a device installation restriction using the built-in Local Group Policy Editor to prevent the keyboard from being reinstalled every time the computer starts.
- To do this, identify the hardware ID of the keyboard so that you are only dealing with that device. Then tell Local Group Policy Editor to prevent Windows from installing anything that matches that ID.
- Press Win + X and then select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click on Standard PS / 2 Keyboard and select Properties.
- Go to the Details tab and change the Property drop-down option to Hardware ID.
- Open the Run dialog (Win + R) and enter gpedit.msc on the command line.
- In Computer Configuration, go to Administrative Templates> System> Device Installation> Device Installation Restrictions.
- Right-click Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device instance IDs and select Edit.
- Select Enabled in the upper left of the Prevent installation of devices matching any of these device instance IDs window, and then choose Show in the area below.
- Go back to where you were in Device Manager in Step 4. Right-click the first entry in the list and select Copy.
- Go back to the policy you opened in Step 8, double-click the space under Value, and then paste (Ctrl + V) the copied ID into that box.
- Choose Accept on that screen and then Accept on the policies screen.
- Find the device again in Device Manager, right-click and select Uninstall Device. Accept the prompts that appear.
- Restart the computer to permanently disable the laptop keyboard.
- If the keyboard still works, repeat steps 9 and 10 with any other hardware IDs listed. There is a possibility that the one you used was not taken. In that case, add all the IDs in the list to be safe.
- To undo this method, turn on the keyboard, return to the group policy editor, and set the policy to Not Configured. A reboot will re-enable the laptop keyboard.
Use the wrong driver to break the keyboard
- Updating a device with an incompatible driver is unorthodox and should generally be avoided. However, it is a viable solution in this case. When you install an incompatible driver for a keyboard, it stops working.
- Open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right-click Standard PS / 2 Keyboard, and select Update Driver.
- Select Browse my computer for driver software.
- Select Let me choose from a list of drivers available on my computer.
- Clear the Show compatible hardware check box.
- Scroll and select a manufacturer (other than your standard keyboard), select a model, and then choose Next.
- Select Yes.
- Select Close once the driver is updated.
- Select Yes to restart the computer.
