HP Omen 30L review

The HP Omen 30L is a slightly slim beast that can pack some very fast components into a slim and stylish chassis that shows them off. The Omen 30L is arguably the best gaming PC in HP's lineup and is available in a variety of configurations that, while not cheap, offer fair value.

The HP Omen 30L is a slightly slimmer beast that can fit some really fast components into a sleek, streamlined chassis. The Omen 30L, arguably HP’s best gaming PC, is available in a range of configurations that aren’t inexpensive but do provide a decent value. The HP Omen 30L range has models ranging in price from $1,699 for a basic 11th Gen Core i7/RTX 3060 Ti machine to $2,999 for an RTX 3090 model. Additionally, configuration options give much more precise control over the hardware supplied and thus the ultimate cost.

Curiously, even with customisation, HP doesn’t seem to provide our precise test combination. However, the closest configuration to our test device costs $2,229 (about £1,580, AU$2,890) and includes an Intel Core i9-10850K and an RTX 3080 along with plenty of storage and RAM. When compared to another potent choice, such as the $2,919 (about £2,070, AU$3,780) Alienware Aurora R10 Ryzen Edition with a comparable storage and RAM configuration coupled with an RTX 3080 and Ryzen 9 5900, it’s a fairly tempting price.

Furthermore, considering the difficulties in finding graphics cards, it might be difficult to assemble a cheaper system on your own. The iCUE Infinity Gaming PC, which starts at about $2,470 (£1,749, AU$3,200) for a variant with a 10th-Gen Core i7, half the RAM, and an RTX 3060 rather than a 3080, is another example of a more boutique-style machine which prices HP manages.

HP Omen 30L review: Design

The HP Omen 30L Game Desktop is a stunning piece of equipment. With a strong black chassis, a striking front design, and a handsome glass side panel, it may be the best-looking gaming desktop I’ve ever examined. The machine’s side allows you to see the stunning RGB components within, while the front of the machine features a glass face with a coloured LED diamond and colourful LED fan lights. On the sidewalls, there are several ventilation openings that appear to be aesthetic choices rather than functional requirements.

The gadget isn’t overly big or heavy however; it measures 17.1 x 16.6 x 6.7 inches and weighs 28.4 pounds. Although I kept our test device on the floor without incident, this machine could certainly live on top of a strong desk (as is the case with many of the best gaming desks). The Omen 30L shows that gaming desktops can appear incredibly lovely with the correct aesthetics; it is neither boring nor overly designed.

HP Omen 30L review: Internals

A bespoke micro-ATX motherboard, which is usual for this size of tower, is used in the Omen 30L Gaming Desktop. Even the circuit board is matte black, which is a thoughtful addition. Although the Falcon NW Talon has a full-sized ATX board, which provides it some extra functionality but can make the interior feel a little claustrophobic. The Omen 30L has plenty of space.

But I wouldn’t call it clean. Particularly if you’re coming from a boutique PC manufacturer like Origin or Falcon NW, the cable management is a little shoddy. To untangle and reroute them would be quite a mess because they cross in so many different directions. In a prebuilt system, it’s better to avoid that aspect of the DIY style.

Thankfully, access to the internals requires no tools at all. The side panel is raised by pushing the textured button on the rear. It has a very straightforward and user-friendly design. I even like it better than the Falcon NW Talon’s door hinges, which can be a hassle if you keep your tower on your desk. While only one screw needs to be removed to remove the other side panel.

The graphics card, which is kept in place by a plastic brace to avoid sag and guarantee safe delivery, is likewise an example of this. Even the enormous Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 can fit in the Omen 30L with enough of room.

HP Omen 30L review: Performance

We’re happy to announce that the 2080 Super is still capable despite being more than two years old. At 1440p, this GPU is a beast, and most games will run smoothly at 4K as well. Esports games operate brilliantly, however demanding triple-A titles may struggle to maintain above 60fps at 4K ultra. In the vast majority of games, lowering the graphic settings will enable 60+ frames per second at 4K resolution.

When compared to the more recent 3080, the 2080 Super’s real-time ray-tracing capability is its single significant drawback. With a card from the 3000-series, turning on ray-tracing in supported gaming browser results in a negligible drop in framerates, but doing it with a 2080 Super batters your framerate by as much as 50%. This was seen in both Metro Exodus and the Port Royal RTX benchmark test from 3DMark. This ray exacts a hefty toll, as the great philosopher Thanos once stated. At least, we are confident that he said “ray.”

As was already established, the Omen 30L case has excellent airflow thanks to its clever fan configuration and astonishingly good ventilation. The exhaust airflow at the back of the case feels robust despite the modest rear fan. Throughout the course of our testing, we didn’t notice any alarming component temperatures, but we did hear some fan noise when the processor was under a lot of stress, which unsurprisingly seemed to originate from the AIO CPU radiator fan. However, a few BIOS modifications to the fan curves may be able to fix this.

HP Omen 30L review: Gaming and Graphics Performance

HP’s newest Omen is a gaming powerhouse in our evaluation setup thanks to a combination of Intel’s top-end consumer-oriented Core i9-10900K and our current top graphics card pick, Nvidia’s excellent (though hard to obtain) RTX 3080. But it doesn’t always triumph over recently tested systems with comparable configurations, such as the Alienware R11 ($4,283 as tested, with a 10900K and RTX 3090) and the Corsair Vengeance i7200 ($4,499 as configured with a similar Core i9-10850K and a little higher-end RTX 3090).

The iBuypower RDY IWBG207, which offers the Core i9-10900KF (basically the same CPU as in the Omen but without integrated graphics) and an RTX 3080 for $2,199 as tested, presents the Omen with its most direct rival in our desktop competition. Be aware that the iBuypower machine has 1TB less storage space and 16GB less RAM than our Omen. We assumed that the Omen’s 120 mm AIO wasn’t keeping the CPU as cool as the competition given the Omen’s relatively subpar performance, especially at 1080p, and what we know about the 10900K CPU’s high thermals.

As a result, we also put the HP system through our Metro Exodus gauntlet, which involves running the benchmark 15 times at the RTX preset to mimic about 30 minutes of gaming. The average frame rate for the game on the HP system was 117.6 fps, with little variance. The system began the test at 118.8 frames per second on the first run, dropped to 117.1 on the fourth run, and then maintained a steady 117.5 frames per second for the remaining runs.

The CPU operated at an average clock speed of 4.9 GHz and an average temperature of 72.7 degrees Celsius throughout the Metro Exodus runs (162.9 degrees Fahrenheit). The average clock speed and temperature of the GPU were 1.81 GHz and 73.8 °C, respectively (164.8 degrees Fahrenheit).

HP Omen 30L review: Price and availability

Like many other gaming computers with Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-Series GPUs, the HP Omen 30L is not readily available on the market. Should you discover one, they are always expensive. The GT13-0295xt variant, which costs roughly $2,000 and has an Intel Core i7-10700K processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super GPU, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of SSD storage, and a 2TB hard drive, is now the most cheap Omen 30L on the HP website.

The most costly model is the Omen 30L GT13-0380t, which has a starting price of about $3,280. You will receive a liquid cooling system, a 512GB SSD, a GeForce RTX 3090 GPU, an Intel Core i7-10700K CPU, and 16GB of RAM. Due to its high asking price, this model may already be in stock.

The GT13-0093 under review occupies an intermediate position. This device has an Intel Core i9-10900K processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU, 32 GB of RAM, 2 TB of SSD storage and 2 TB of HDD storage, as well as a liquid cooling system. For what it’s worth, it is a remarkably potent machine, and given the tremendous demand for 3080 GPUs, it is a fantastic deal to get before they run out of stock once more. you can purchase this product from HP official store.

Final Words

Even with some dubious add-ons and software, the HP Omen 30L Gaming Desktop is still a work of art. It is sophisticated, subtle, and strong. Be prepared to do some research if this sounds like the gaming rig for you because it is also very pricey and it can be difficult to choose one.

In the same general price range, the Corsair Vengeance i7200 is undoubtedly a more powerful computer. It’s also a really attractive computer. It’s okay to want to conserve a little space on top of your desk or underneath it given that the Vengeance is also a little bit bigger and bulkier.
