HyperX Armada 25 review

The HyperX Armada 25 is a very impressive monitor. It has great power and is impressive in its own right. But most impressive is that the Armada monitor series is a first for HyperX.

HP has long sold HyperX-branded gaming peripherals such as headsets, microphones, mice, and keyboards. However, with the release of the 25-inch FHD 240 Hz Armada 25 and the 27-inch QHD 165 Hz IPS Armada 27, the brand is looking to expand. The panel I’ll be testing here is the Armada 25.

Users who prefer speed over resolution should take note. The Armada 25 operates at 240 Hz, has G-Sync certification, and is FreeSync compatible. It has a powerful overdrive and a backlight strobe blur reduction feature. There’s no HDR or extended color, but HyperX delivers on response and clean video processing. We are here with our HyperX Armada 25 review.

HyperX Armada 25 review: Design

The HyperX Armada 25 has a distinct overall design, but the main chassis is reminiscent of any other gaming monitor. It has a matte black finish that is easy to clean and does not clash with themed setups. The display has three sides that are bezel-free, but it still has inner borders like any other recent PC monitor.

The first thing we like about this monitor is that it comes with a monitor arm instead of a standard desk, which saves space by default. Because the C-clamp only takes up 4 inches by 4.5 inches and the monitor itself is floating in the air, the dimensions are practically insignificant. It weighs 17.1 pounds in total, so if you have a good desk surface, you won’t have any trouble keeping it upright.

Its build quality is comparable to premium displays, so even though it is less expensive than most 240Hz monitors, it does not feel flimsy. The monitor arm is strong and solid, so the screen does not sag or wobble unless you intentionally cause it to. Because the plastics used are tough, they will not crack or flex easily when subjected to moderate pressure.

For convenience, the HyperX Armada 25 has an OSD joystick and a dedicated power button on the back. To get to them, you have to reach in or pull the monitor closer, but that’s a minor annoyance when compared to those pesky OSD buttons. A remote would be useful in this setup, but it is not entirely necessary because you can simply pull the monitor closer to you.

This monitor is distinct in that it includes a VESA monitor arm rather than the standard base and tower combination. If you want to use it with other monitors, you can purchase the contraption separately. You can tilt, swivel, pivot, and adjust the height of the screen to achieve your ideal viewing angle without the bulk of a traditional stand.

HyperX Armada 25 review: Display

The Armada 25 has a lot to offer competitive gamers. HyperX isn’t messing around when it comes to features. A refresh rate of 240Hz and a response time of 1ms translate to seriously crisp, clean images. This increased refresh rate also means you’ll see less blur with fast-moving objects, ensuring you see everything as clearly as possible. This 1920×1080 display, which supports FHD (Full High Definition), looks fantastic on the 24.5-inch display.

The IPS (In-Plane Switching) LCD panel also provides a more accurate and consistent viewing experience. While this is great for gamers, video and photo editors should take note. When compared to other LCD panel types, IPS displays are known for their true color presentation. Furthermore, IPS panels have the widest viewing angle available. In fact, the Armada 25 has a 178° viewing angle while maintaining color and visual fidelity.

While historically competitive gamers have leaned into TN panels for their monitors due to their response time (.5ms response), these gamers also give up all of the visual quality offered by an IPS display. HyperX attempts to bridge the gap with its new monitor line. Supported by NVIDIA G-SYNC 4, the Armada 25 leverages the refresh synchronization tech of G-SYNC, pushing the visual quality, refresh rate and gameplay to the max while bringing screen tearing and input lag down to a minimum. This results in a stunning gameplay experience that looks, feels and plays exceptionally well.

HyperX Armada 25 review: Performance

The Armada 25 isn’t going to blow competitive circuit monitors away. From the start, its 1080p max resolution puts it behind the competition, but it doesn’t detract from the overall experience. The Armada 25 was connected to a Lenovo desktop running Windows 11 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER GPU. It’s not a high-end setup, but the monitor connected instantly via DP 1.4, required no custom software, and delivered a high-quality image the moment it powered on.

The FHD 1080p monitor has rich and deep colors, but it falls short of the 1440p NZXT monitor I’ve been using. Especially since it lacks an HDR mode. As an IPS monitor that uses parallel liquid crystals for a vibrant display, We expected some color contrast and response time issues, but the Armada has enough built in to mitigate these common issues.

Price

With the Armada 25 costing $449.99 and the Armada 27 costing $499.99, Of course, there is room for price cuts, and we believe a $50 reduction on both SKUs would be easier to swallow. If you’re okay with the price and the idea of an all-in-one package that includes a great gaming monitor and a super solid desk mount appeals to you, the Armada range gets my two thumbs up. In terms of the Armada 25 vs. the Armada 27, I’d spend the extra $50 and get the 27, as I believe it hits the sweet spot of 165 Hz and 1440p. If, on the other hand, you’re a frequent competitor and feel like you’d benefit from a smoother display and faster responsiveness, the 25 is designed for you.

Final Words

The HyperX Armada 25 is a truly outstanding monitor. It packs a powerful punch and is impressive on its own. The Armada monitor series, on the other hand, is a first for HyperX. Every aspect of this monitor has been carefully considered and implemented. Despite the lack of HDR, the Armada 25 provides everything a competitive gamer requires, such as lightning fast response times, while also providing everything a typical gamer desires, such as pretty visuals and buttery smooth performance. All of this in one monitor, plus a high-quality desk mount stand, makes this a difficult package to beat and one that we wholeheartedly recommend.
