Ultimately, how much mileage you get from this depends on many factors, so use it sparingly and don’t trust it, but it’s certainly nice to have an option as a last resort. So the next time you come across a “Can’t take photos” storage message, give it a try, it should work at least by taking a handful of additional photos to get you through long enough until you get to your computer to perform image processing, backup, and proper cleaning.
And yes, you can always choose to use an app like Instagram or VSCO to upload images instantly to their corresponding services, which also works if you are in a cellular area or wi-fi network and don’t care about the images going to the internet. Otherwise, quickly empty your device by following traditional guidelines, such as removing unnecessary apps, old videos, music, and more you need. In the latter case, just ask yourself, which is more important, an app that you can reload, or a picture of a moment that happens once? I would say uninstall the app and take pictures instead.
