JBL Live Pro 2 review

The audio is smooth with a slight emphasis on bass, the design offers good comfort, and the app has all the features I would expect from a more expensive true wireless headset.

The JBL Live Pro 2 are a fantastic pair of true wireless all-in-one earbuds that offer good sound, a comfortable fit for all-day listening, and most importantly, excellent noise cancellation. JBL is famous for its mid-range audio products that sometimes give double-priced competing products a run for their money. And the good news is that the JBL Live Pro 2 earphones are no exception.

The JBL Live Pro 2 are the brand’s latest true wireless earbuds, successors to the JBL Live Pro+. Some notable improvements have been made, including adaptive noise cancellation, multi-device pairing and more customization options within the app. We are here with our JBL Live Pro 2 review you can read now.

These earbuds are great all round and can certainly claim a place in our guide on the best true wireless earbuds, which we will add shortly. Thanks to the dynamic 11mm drivers, the sound is powerful, clear and low. But you can also adjust the sound of these earbuds with an equalizer in the app and a number of presets. The companion app is generally pleasant to use, with a nice layout and numerous customization options. It is surprising to see how many companies get it wrong in this area, but fortunately JBL does not.

JBL Live Pro 2 review: Design

It would be boring to say that the JBL Live Pro 2 looks like most other wireless stem headphones, yet that is exactly how they appear. The metal back of the stem adds a touch of style to a price range where functionality is usually preferred over style, but the JBLs are a good combination of both. However, the appearance may attract some fingerprints and smudges. Available in four colors, the headphones are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. No cramping, no pain, no greasiness-the earbuds slip into the ear and do their job. Three sizes of earplugs are provided if the earbuds do not fit the first required.

Water resistance is IPX5, more robust than most noise-canceling earbuds to deal with sweat and rain. Keep in mind that this rating does not equate to water resistance. The Live Pro 2 opts for touch controls, which are well implemented. The “gestures” are responsive and relatively easy to keep track of; the right earpiece is dedicated to playback: one tap to play/pause, a double tap to skip forward, a triple tap to skip to the previous track, and a press to activate voice assist.

JBL Live Pro 2 review: Comfort

The JBL Live Pro 2 are quite comfortable. They have a lightweight fit that does not penetrate deep into the ear canal. Also, the control recording does not push the earpiece against the ear. However, they differ from the JBL Live Pro+ TWS True Wireless because of the “Oval TubesTM” design. The nozzle is oval rather than round and is designed to improve the ear tip seal.

That said, the earbuds tend to come out of the ear with small movements, such as when talking. Also, there are not as many earphone options available as the Live Pro+, and you may need to change earphones to get a better fit.

JBL Live Pro 2 review: Connectivity

The JBL Live Pro 2 review have excellent Bluetooth connectivity. You can simultaneously connect them to up to two devices at a time. The application also offers two different modes: Audio mode, which favors high sound quality, and Video mode, which favors lower audio latency. Using Audio mode, audio latency is very high, which is noticeable and distracting. Using Video mode, the latency is significantly lower and you should not experience any lip sync problems via PC, iOS or Android.

JBL Live Pro 2 review: Noise Cancelling

The sound isolation performance of the JBL Live Pro 2 are excellent. They have an ANC system that you can customize by selecting Adaptive ANC or adjusting the level of ANC. You can also access the following functions to improve sound isolation performance: “Loss Compensation,” “Ear Canal Compensation,” and “Ear Canal Test.” For more information on these tests, see the app’s support test.

With all these functions turned on or executed, they can block much of the low rumble of bus and airplane engines. In addition, they can eliminate ambient chatter and the high-pitched hum of air conditioners. That said, without any of these functions and with ANC set to a high level, they are able to block a very similar amount of ambient noise.

JBL Live Pro 2 review: Sound Quality

We found the sound of the JBL Live Pro 2 to be similar to that of the Reflect Pro model, balanced, but certainly not exciting, if that is what you are looking for. The bass is heavy, the mids are clearly reproduced, and the highs are clear and distinct. It’s a pleasant sound and, like the Melomania 1+, the balance makes them easy to listen to in a wide range of musical genres.

The bass line of Easy Life’s Skeletons has nice weight and texture, while the midrange quality helps the vocals. One might ask for more sharpness and detail, but we like this smoothness that does not come at the expense of character. We can hear Phoebe Bridger’s softer intones in Garden Song or clearly distinguish Chris Cornell’s distinctive vocal tones in Black Hole Sun-there is a consistency in Live Pro 2 that we have come to appreciate from track to track.

JBL Live Pro 2 review: Battery Life

The battery life of the JBL Live Pro 2 earbuds is nothing short of spectacular, with a maximum battery life of 10 hours. The earbuds can last longer than any of the stem-mounted rivals we tested between charges, which is especially impressive considering their lightweight construction. It is important to note that maximum battery life is only achievable if you disable the noise cancellation feature.

Enabling standard noise cancellation still gives you 8 hours of battery life between charges. If, on the other hand, you enable the noise cancellation function in adaptive mode, the most advanced option, battery life is reduced to only 6 hours.

Conclusion

The JBL Live Pro 2 true wireless earphones are well worth their price and are also a worthy upgrade over the previous generation. With effective ANC and powerful, punchy sound, they are really fun to listen to, and the battery lasts a long time, too.

The most interesting aspect of these headphones is that they come with a number of upgraded features, including a detailed equalizer to customize the sound, wireless charging, water resistance, and automatic pause to stop music when you pull one out. If you need them for commuting or workouts, the JBL Live Pro 2 are a great choice.
