Lenovo Slim Pro 7 review (2023) a fast and affordable thin laptop

a discrete GPU and offers a comfortable keyboard

The catch might be that these parts aren’t as fancy as what you might find in the best ultrabooks. The Zen 3+ cores in this Ryzen 7000-series CPU aren’t AMD’s newest, and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 is an entry-level GPU from a few years ago. Performance holds up for simple tasks. If you want to do more hard, multi-tasking work, this might not be for you. Lenovo has put a lot of money into making thin, light laptops that are much more powerful than the rest of the market. One example is the Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X. The new Lenovo Slim Pro 7 is even thinner (but a little heavier).

Lenovo Slim Pro 7: Description

It has a discrete GPU and one of the newest AMD Ryzen 7 CPUs. This makes for a machine that is easy to carry around and also packs a punch. It’s a modern-looking laptop that’s well-made, and it has a 14.5-inch screen that fits in a chassis that usually holds 14-inch screens. It’s fast and has a long battery life, which makes the price, which is close to the middle, even more appealing.

Once in a Milky Way supernova, we get a laptop with great specs and a low price. This time, that laptop is the Lenovo Slim Pro 7. Even though it’s not perfect, it’s damn close. For just $1,199, you get a powerful AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU packed into a slim chassis with a beautiful 14.5-inch display, a clicky keyboard, and great audio. Aside from its annoying power button and shallow touchpad, the Lenovo Slim Pro 7’s worst crime is that its battery life is below average.

Design and Build Quality

Lenovo Slim Pro 7 review

Lenovo has quietly become a leader in making modern laptops over the past ten years, and the Lenovo Slim Pro 7 is a good example of this. It’s a simple but stylish laptop that does everything right. All touch points are made of metal, so the quality of the materials is high, and the “storm grey” colorway looks great. The Slim Pro 7 lives up to its name with thin edges around the screen and a slim body that is only.71 inches thick and weighs 3.5 pounds.

It’s just a little bit bigger than the Apple MacBook Pro 14, which is 0.61 inches thick and weighs 3.5 pounds. The Lenovo’s 14.5-inch screen is a little bigger than the Mac’s, and it’s also a few tenths of an inch wider. The only strange thing about the laptop is a lip on the top of the screen bezel that holds the 1080p webcam. It might get caught on things when you put or take out your laptop from a bag, but it does make the laptop a little bit easier to open. Aside from that, there’s nothing wrong. The Slim Pro 7 is a stylish laptop that can compete with the XPS from Dell and the MacBook Pro from Apple.

Lenovo Slim Pro 7: Display

Lenovo Slim Pro 7 review

The Slim Pro 7’s 14.5-inch, 2560 x 1600 touchscreen display is fine, but not great. It covers 118% of the sRGB color gamut and 83.7% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, but our light meter says it’s not as bright as the competition at 325 nits. We didn’t have any problems when the screen brightness was turned all the way up. When we watched the Blue Beetle 1440p trailer, the hero’s blue suit and similar special effects jumped off the screen, as did the green palm trees in the background.

A red-colored scene in which the main character fights some bad guys didn’t look as intense as some other screens we have seen. When it comes to color, the screen’s measurements are close to those of the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra and the HP Dragonfly Pro, but it wasn’t as bright as those devices. The Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 8 has an OLED screen, which was the most colorful of the bunch. However, the Apple screen was the brightest.

Lenovo Slim Pro 7: Connectivity

The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 has a good number of ways to connect to the outside world. It has Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4, as well as a USB4 port that can handle up to 40 Gbps of data. This is joined by a second USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port that can handle both Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4. You can charge the laptop or connect a monitor to either port.

The laptop also has a USB-A port, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm combo audio port, so older devices can connect to it in a variety of ways. But there is no SD card reader, which is a big problem.

Bluetooth 5.1 and the newest Wi-Fi standard, Wi-Fi 6E, both work well for wireless connections. To get the benefits of this new standard, you need a Wi-Fi 6E router, but Wi-Fi 6 also worked well, reaching 80 Mbps in an office that was several walls and fifty feet away from a router.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Bing, boom, bam! My fingers flew across the keyboard of the Lenovo Slim Pro 7 like they were trying to reach the sky. It felt good to click and click. They have a long range and strong feedback. On the 10fastfingers.com typing test, we typed 79 words per minute, which is just a little bit faster than my current average of 78 wpm.

We really like how far apart the keys are and how different they feel on my fingers. The 3.1-by-5.3-inch touchpad could be softer, but the worst thing about it is how thin it feels. There is not much resistance, and the click travel is very short, so navigating the web is not very satisfying.

Lenovo Slim Pro 7: Performance

The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 is a great choice if you want a thin and light laptop for demanding productivity work and a few light creative tasks. It’s also a good choice if you don’t want to spend a lot of money. It works well and lets you play some games if you use the right settings. It’s also well-made and easy to use.

You can spend more money on a 14-inch laptop, but there’s no reason to do so unless you want an OLED or mini-LED screen. The Slim Pro 7 may not be the most exciting laptop in the world, but it should meet the needs of most people.

Software and Warranty

Lenovo has put all of its important software features into one app called Lenovo Vantage, which is a big help. You can check your system information, warranty, system settings, driver updates, and more with this app. You can find everything you might need to get started with your new laptop there.

Even though that’s the case, this laptop still gets extra programs like Spotify and Clipchamp. No professional video editor is going to use this, sorry. The Slim Pro 7 has a limited warranty of one year. Check out how Lenovo did in our Tech Support Showdown and our list of the best and worst brands.

Lenovo Slim Pro 7: Battery Life

Lenovo Slim Pro 7 review

The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 lasts a good amount of time for a system with a separate GPU. The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 lasted 9 hours and 16 minutes on our battery test, which involved browsing the web, streaming videos, and running OpenGL graphics benchmarks while connected to Wi-Fi and with the screen brightness set to 150 nits.

At 9:03, that’s longer than the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, which also has a discrete GPU. With graphics built in, the Lenovo Yoga 9i (10:38) and the HP Dragonfly Pro (13:23) lasted longer.

Lenovo Slim Pro 7: Price

Lenovo Slim Pro 7 review

The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 only comes in one model right now, the one we reviewed, which is only sold at Best But. It only costs $1,199, which is a steal for what it can do. The Slim Pro 7 has an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU with 6GB of VRAM, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 14.5-inch, 1600p, 90Hz display. Check out our page on the best budget laptops if you want a laptop that costs even less.

Final Words

The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 is a thin laptop that has a separate GPU and a CPU that is fast enough to handle any single-core task. None of it is the newest or best technology, but it works, especially if you want a slim design but still want some graphics power.

Look, if you want faster graphics and better performance, there are devices like the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra that can give you that. But that laptop we tested cost $2,399.99, which was more than $1,000 more than the Slim Pro 7 we looked at. So the Slim Pro 7 is also for people on a tight budget who want a separate graphics card.

With a 2560 x 1600 display, it can be expensive. But it feels cheap in other places, like the touchpad. In short, if you want a separate GPU but are on a tight budget, this might work for you. But if you don’t, you might want to consider the Lenovo Yoga 9i for a bit more luxury.

FAQs

Are Lenovo slim laptops good?

Even though it’s on an ultraportable, the screen is one of the best we’ve ever seen on a laptop. The Slim 9i is also very fast because it has the latest Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB PCIe SSD, which is a good size.

Is Lenovo Slim 7 Pro touch screen?

The Yoga Slim 7 Pro Gen 6 (16″ AMD) laptop has a bigger screen than most laptop monitors. It has up to a 16″ 2.5K touchscreen with 3.9mm thin borders that make it easy to see. And with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, your videos and games will look smooth.
