The Logitech G203 is a wired gaming mouse that, much like premium options like the G502, has been a staple in Logitech’s lineup for what feels like centuries, and this new version brings with it flashier and expanded lighting. For other features, however, Logitech has gone back to basics, with a respectable 8000 DPI sensor and a six-button setup that will appeal to both peripheral purists and those on a tight budget. The keyboard feels great and has extremely low click latency. It also has a large CPI range that you can adjust in increments of 50. It’s not ideal for large hands with palm or claw grips, but it should be comfortable for all hand sizes with fingertip grips. It features RGB lighting zones in the logo and three independent zones in a band that runs around the back. Logitech G203 Lightsync review: Design
There is no doubt that this mouse is designed for smaller hands. Measuring 4.59 x 2.45 x 1.50 inches, it may not be the right choice for those looking for something to hold. Still, this miniature form factor means that the Logitech G203 Lightsync remains fairly light at 85 grams. In practice, we tossed this unit around with the same ease as the slightly more expensive Corsair Sabre RGB Pro, which weighs 74g but has a chunkier build. Due to the squat build of this frame, the G203 Lightsync is best operated with a claw or fingertip grip, although our smaller hands could comfortably sit in a palm grip as well.
There is also a wide range of different color options that coat the shell. We received a purple model with darker purple accents along the scroll wheel and DPI button, and of course the classic Lightsync stripe on the back of the dome. You can also get the G203 Lightsync in black, white, or blue. The materials are quite basic, as you would expect. You get a plastic case with no additional grip materials and a lightweight plastic scroll wheel on top. The plastic is pretty smooth, so there’s no textured grip, but the tapered shape leading to the back hugs the palm just right for a better sense of control.
Logitech G203 Lightsync review: Comfort
When the G203 Lightsync was launched in April, it was available in white or black. As of today, the mouse is also available in purple or blue. You no longer have to rely on RGB to add color to your life. And while the black version may look more premium in retrospect than the purple and white test units we have, sometimes you just want to relax and buy a peripheral that’s fun to use.
The problem is that Logitech didn’t bother to match the rubber cables on the blue and purple mouse to the rest of the mouse. The purple mouse has a white cable and the blue mouse has a black cable. It looks like Logitech had a bunch of cables from the white and black versions lying around and just attached them to the new colors. On our lilac mouse, the white cable just looks unsightly.
Logitech G203 Lightsync review: Features
Because the G203 Lightsync prioritizes a lightweight physical design over anything else, there aren’t many extra bells and whistles. You can use Logitech G Hub software to customize profiles and change RGB lighting. Reprogramming the buttons is easy enough, as is choosing between the different lighting presets. Creating your own lighting patterns is a bit more difficult, but there’s still room for experimentation. Personally, I found the default rainbow theme to be extremely pretty, but others might find the constant color shifting annoying.
Our only real complaint about the G-Hub software is that it distinguishes between “application” profiles and “desktop” profiles rather haphazardly, making it a bit tedious to code new ones and switch between them. You can also create macros and integrate Logitech devices with other programs like Discord and OBS. The process is a bit more cumbersome and spans more menus than it could be, but it’s generally a stable program that doesn’t put a significant strain on system resources.
Logitech G203 Lightsync review: Lighting
On the lighting side, this newly released Lightsync version of the classic G203 makes the biggest gains compared to the previous G203 Prodigy. Here Logitech continues with the two lighting zones of the original; this is the G logo and the stripe around the natural curve of the mouse. However, this streak can be further broken down into three distinct areas. The out-of-the-box lighting is full RGB with 16.8 million colors, making it perfect for those who love a bedroom disco. Also, it’s pretty bright; In my experience, maybe even a little blinding in darker settings.
Additionally, Logitech’s always awesome G Hub software opens up endless possibilities in terms of customization, not just for Lightning. Obviously there are options to play around with the lighting to your heart’s content, including plenty of preset features to keep you busy.As well as traditional fixed color or color cycle lighting presets, Logitech has bundled some of its more fun features with the G203 Lightsync. This includes the Audio Visualizer setting, which adjusts the backlight to match whatever audio is playing through your computer.
Logitech G203 Lightsync review: Connectivity
If you want something even cheaper and would rather go wireless than RGB lighting, the $19 Logitech M510 is our most popular budget mouse thanks to its comfortable feel and long battery life. If you regularly switch between multiple machines and want to keep your settings with you, the Prodigy is probably a better choice.

True, the Logitech G203 Lightsync won’t outperform the Razer Basilisk V3, but it doesn’t have to. If you don’t rely on a super-light, super-fast gaming mouse to get you through breakneck FPS tournaments, why would you pay for one? For $39.99, the Logitech G203 Lightsync just has to offer fast in-game response time, maintain its tracking position on the battlefield, and stay comfortable. In all my testing in Apex Legends, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Red Dead Redemption 2, this little pointer did just that.
Sure, we couldn’t swing it quite as wildly as we could with the Razer Viper V2 Pro under our fingertips, but we weren’t holding a $150 gaming mouse either. For this price, the Logitech G203 Lightsync far exceeds expectations, thanks to the work of its sensor and relatively lightweight form factor. In fact, we were particularly impressed with the click switches under each of the main buttons. While we’re used to a softer landing with the speed-focused hands, there was a satisfying tactile engagement with each of these clicks that we’ve missed after months of testing switches designed for twitch actuation.
Conclusion
The Logitech G203 LightSync is a budget mouse. However, it lags behind many of today’s top mice in terms of features and is comparatively heavier. And when there are mice like the Razer Viper Mini for just S$10 more, we’re not sure there’s much point in buying the LightSync mouse. It’s not a bad product per se, but it just hasn’t managed to keep up with the competition.
The G203 Lightsync is our very favorite peripheral. It’s an inexpensive, no-frills accessory that has a specific goal in mind and achieves that goal without excessive tinkering along the way. It’s more expensive than the Rival 3 and not as stylish as the Viper Mini, but this Logitech G203 Lightsync review explained that it’s just as functional as both and a little lighter.
