OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro 2024: review and specs

One of the first big Android phones to come out in 2023 is the OnePlus 11. When the Apple iPhone 14 Pro came out late last year, we said it had cutting-edge hardware, a beautiful design, and some very good cameras. Even though these two phones aren’t direct competitors, and the Android vs. iOS debate means that they’re going after different audiences.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 48-megapixel Wide lens with an f/1.78 aperture and a Sony sensor. The OnePlus 11 5G has a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a Sony sensor. Both smartphones have more than one camera and optical image stabilisation. The ultra-wide camera on the OnePlus 11 5G is 48 megapixels and 115 degrees, while the camera on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is 12 megapixels and 120 degrees. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a larger field of view, but it can’t beat the OnePlus because it has more megapixels. With their ultra wide lenses, both devices can take macro photos.

Dynamic Island is one of the best new things that came with the iPhone 14. The display feature turned the notch, which used to be annoying, into a real iOS feature. It let users see certain alerts and notifications in an animated window that blended in with the black sensors at the top of the phone.

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro Design & build

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro

The design of the iPhone 14 Pro hasn’t changed much from the last one. It has a slightly thicker body, but the same straight sides, flat screen, and camera module that isn’t in the middle. The only real changes are the new colour options and the cutout in the front for the Dynamic Island selfie camera. It looks great, is an exercise in minimalism, and feels just as high-end as you would expect.

OnePlus took things to the next level with the 11. Its “black hole-inspired” back camera module is made of medical-grade stainless steel to make it stand out. It sits on either glossy Eternal Green or matte frosted Titan Black glass and makes it very clear that you have a phone from this year. You have to be really paying attention to know that the iPhone is a phone from the year 2022.

The Android phone is bigger than the other one, and its front and back glass are curved to fit into the thin frame in the middle. It can compete with similar-priced phones, but it’s clear that the materials and construction aren’t as good as the iPhone.

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro Image quality

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro

If we put pictures taken with either phone next to each other, we can see that the quality is very similar, especially when the light is good. Both of them can easily make images with good details and colors that look real, and it’s often hard to tell them apart. One difference is that the colors produced by the three OnePlus lenses are very different from each other, while the colors produced by the three iPhone lenses are much more similar.

The difference with the OnePlus is especially clear when taking pictures in artificial light, but it can also sometimes be seen in the sky. Since the lens on the iPhone is longer, it has slightly better zooming options. The 2x digital zoom on the iPhone gives great results that almost make it seem like you have four lenses.

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro RAM and UFS 4.0

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro

Even though both the OnePlus 11 and the iPhone 14 Pro have flagship chipsets (the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the OnePlus and the A16 Bionic for the iPhone), the OnePlus 11 has more than twice as much RAM.

According to OnePlus, the combination of 16GB of RAM and fast UFS 4.0 offers better power efficiency, wider bandwidth, and faster read and write speeds. This means that, in theory, users can run up to 44 apps at the same time.

The iPhone 14 Pro only has 6GB of RAM, but the combination of the A16 Bionic processor and RAM means the phone is still very fast. In fact, when we tested the iPhone in October, we found that it was the fastest phone you could buy.

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro Cameras

OnePlus 11 vs Apple iPhone 14 Pro

On paper, OnePlus wins when it comes to the number of pixels in its back camera, no matter which of its three lenses you look at. The 50MP main camera, 48MP ultrawide camera, and 32MP “portrait telephoto” camera are better than the iPhone’s 48MP wide, 12MP telephoto, and 12MP ultrawide cameras, even though the iPhone’s optical zoom goes up to 3x and OnePlus’s only goes up to 2x.

Of course, there’s more to it than that. The sensor size, pixel pitch, optical and electronic image stabilization, and type of autofocus all play a big role. The main and ultra-wide sensors in Apple’s latest iPhones are both bigger than those in the company’s previous iPhones. This, along with the company’s excellent image processing, makes for great photos. In almost all lighting conditions, the iPhone camera is ranked as one of the best, along with those from Samsung and Google.

With a little help from photography pioneer Hasselblad and a new 13-channel colour sensor, OnePlus has done well to close the gap. The first has helped with colour science and image processing, while the second has helped make white balance more accurate in all lighting conditions, which should make for better photos. We’ll have pictures to compare soon, but for now, we’d say that the two brands have never been so close.

Which one should you consider?

When you look at the huge price difference between the OnePlus 11 and the iPhone 14 Pro, it’s amazing how well it does at taking photos. Even though it doesn’t beat the iPhone in every way, it comes close in many. Whether you think the iPhone’s better performance is worth the extra cost is probably a personal choice.

In general, the image quality of both is about the same. The iPhone is slightly better at macro, but the OnePlus is almost better in low light (albeit with flare issues if there are anything like street lamps present). The iPhone can zoom in better, and the difference in colour between the lenses of the OnePlus is not ideal.

It’s also true that many people just like iOS better, and no matter how good a cheaper Android phone is, it’s hard for them to switch. Even more so if you have been using an iPhone for a few years and have put money into the whole Apple ecosystem, including iCloud, MacBook, iPads, and other products.
