Razer BlackShark V2 in just $50.99 at Best Buy

The Razer BlackShark V2 are wired gaming headphones that look and feel similar to the Razer BlackShark V2 X but have far more customization options. They have a detachable boom mic, a USB sound card, and access Razer’s Synapse 3 software, which allows you to customize their sound and adjust their microphone settings, though we did not test these features. However, while they have reasonably neutral audio reproduction, their performance can vary depending on their positioning and placement on the head. Although their out-of-the-box performance isn’t particularly versatile, their robust customization features are ideal for PC and PlayStation gamers.

The Blackshark V2 is less bulky and lighter than Razer’s Kraken and Nari headsets. The iconic large, circular earcups have been replaced with more conventional oval earcups with matte black plastic shells. Each earcup has a bright green Razer logo on the back, and they are linked together by short neon green fabric-covered wires that run through the black headband. Twin cylindrical struts on either side of each earcup attach to the headband via thin metal arms that slide up and down to adjust fit while allowing for a vertical pivot.

The earpads are soft memory foam covered in breathable fabric, and the underside of the headband has matching fabric-covered padding (the top side of the headband is faux leather). Because the headset is lightweight and breathable, it is comfortable to wear even on larger heads and is suitable for long gaming sessions.

A six-foot fabric-wrapped cable with a 3.5mm plug is permanently attached to the bottom of the left earcup. The removable boom microphone, a foam-covered capsule on a flexible metal arm, is plugged into a port in front of the cable. A mic mute button is located directly behind the headset cable, and a large volume dial is located on the back panel of the earcup (the volume works independently of the volume levels on your device). The permanently attached cable is a letdown, as a removable cable is far easier to replace than an entire headset.

The Blackshark V2 includes a 7.1-channel USB sound card that is incredibly small. The card is a rectangular plastic module 1.75-by-0.6-inch (HW) on a two-inch fabric-wrapped cable terminating in a USB plug. A green LED on the module indicates that it is plugged in and operational, and a 3.5mm headset port is located on the opposite end of the USB cable. A black fabric drawstring carrying bag is also included with the headset.
