Roccat Burst Pro Air review

The Roccat Burst Pro Air is not cheap, but it offers a lot for its price. In fact, it is a very powerful addition to any gaming setup. Its performance is top-notch, thanks to its fast and accurate sensor and optical switches.

The Roccat Burst Pro Air is the first wireless gaming mouse in the Burst series from ROCCAT, and it shares the same symmetrical form as the other mice in the lineup. The presence of four distinct RGB zones as opposed to just one, however, is a noticeable change. The companion software allows for individual customization of each. With a USB receiver or Bluetooth, this mouse can connect wirelessly, and it can also be charged using the USB-C cord that comes with it.

Roccat Burst Pro Air is a manufacturer of peripherals that was founded in 2006. The wireless Burst Pro Air was introduced more than a year after the first Burst Pro. The Burst Pro Air, like the Kone Pro Air before it, features PixArt’s PAW3370 sensor, 2.4 GHz wifi, and up to 100 hours of battery life utilising Bluetooth, albeit illumination isn’t included. In relation to that, the RGB lighting has been increased in comparison to the wired Burst Pro and now includes at least four distinct lighting zones. The primary buttons are made of Titan optical switches from ROCCAT, rated for 100 million clicks, which ensure the lowest click latency without the possibility of accidental double-clicking.

Design

With dimensions of 120 x 58 x 38mm, the Roccat Burst Pro Air mouse is neither the smallest nor the largest one available. Due to this reviewer’s smaller hands, its size required some getting used to, but someone with a larger hand will find it to be the ideal size. It is also quite lightweight at 81 games, requiring little effort to move about on a mousepad. The mouse’s body is heavier than its front, so it isn’t completely balanced, but that is on purpose.

The larger body really cradles our palm tightly. This Roccat Burst Pro Air mouse is as comfortable as it is light, with its gently tapered edges and symmetrical shape accommodating both left- and right-handed users. Additionally, it has appeal. Although there are only two colour options—white or black—it has four RGB zones that can be customized and shine in a honeycomb pattern for an eye-catching display. Additionally, unlike the majority of other honeycomb mice we’ve tested, this mouse has a bionic shell that is impervious to dust and water that serves as its exterior layer of defense.

A pairing button, a toggle to select Bluetooth, Off, or Wireless connectivity, a chamber to store the USB dongle for security, and heat-treated PTFE gliding pads are all located on the mouse’s underside. We had no problems using the mouse while it is plugged in thanks to the paracord braided USB-C cable, which connects to the charging socket on the front of the mouse.

Comfort

According to the Roccat Burst Pro Air’s marketing, its symmetrical design makes it suitable for both left- and right-handed players. However, the side buttons are on the left, so take that for what it is worth. It’s not the biggest mouse we’ve ever encountered, but it’s also not the smallest either. It will be enjoyable to use for claw grippers, and even if you have little hands, you’ll enjoy it. However, for players with large hands, we could suggest searching elsewhere.

We still have a lot of positive things to say about the design, despite the fact that it can’t accommodate all hand types. We like how the side buttons are big and attractive. Since the Roccat Burst Pro Air Titan Switch Optical arrangement is also used by the Burst Pro Air, you can count on precise actuation for up to 100 million clicks. If you’re concerned that double-click troubles will arise in the future, you can also modify the software’s de-bounce settings. Two heat-treated pure PTFE slides are located on the underside.

These delightfully silky skates make sure that the mouse can go about on your mouse mat with ease. Additionally, those skates are silent and scratch-free, which is wonderful. Under there is also a storage compartment for the USB dongle to save it while not in use and a button to swap between mouse modes. You can customize and save up to five onboard memory profiles, and you can then quickly switch between them by pressing this button. In order to quickly identify the profile you are using, doing so also temporarily alters the colour of the RGB lighting.

Connectivity

The Roccat Burst Pro Air mouse uses a 2.4GHz connection, but you may also use a Bluetooth 5.2 signal to establish a connection. Having a Bluetooth connection is usually a pleasant addition, especially when switching between devices, even though the 2.4GHz connection is recommended for gaming. It offers 100 hours of battery life, 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connection, a detachable Phantom Flex cable with quick USB-C charging, pre-tuned PTFE feet, and these features. The mouse has a symmetrical design and is water and dust proof thanks to its shell. Additionally, it supports NVIDIA Reflex, a program that uses GPU and game optimization to significantly lower latency.

Performance

The vendor informed me that the Owl-Eye optical sensor used by the Roccat Burst Pro Air is actually a PixArt PMW3381 optical sensor that has “been specifically built for Roccat only.” The sensor, however, never demonstrated any clear advantages over its rivals. More importantly, it can compete with expensive gaming mice on the market by handling acceleration up to 50G, maximum velocity of 400 inches per second (IPS), and up to 16,000 CPI.

The sensor on the Roccat Burst Pro Air felt dependable whether I sent it at 50 CPI or the maximum of 16,000. The news is good. The mouse has an unnecessary DPI button that you may press to cycle through 5 different settings. The RGB button flashes a distinctive colour to let you know whatever level you’ve chosen.

Instead of flipping the mouse over to change the CPI, this is simpler, and I never mistakenly press the designated button. The issue is that the light only flashes for a small period of time, making it difficult to determine what level you’re at before you start experimenting with mouse movements.

Due to its light design and generously sized PTFE feet, the Burst Pro moved on the battlefield almost effortlessly. My middle finger, though, was also gliding on occasion. The major mouse buttons now have a UV coating from Roccat, which the company claims increases durability.

Battery life

You can also change other settings using this software, including angle snapping, RGB lighting, and power saving. The Roccat Burst Pro Air battery feels fairly typical in terms of how long it lasts when in use, and it also displays a percentage battery for the mouse, which is appreciated. However, we discovered that even with power saving turned on, if my computer was on, it would drain the battery of the mouse before disconnecting to conserve charge.

This resulted in my returning to my PC rather frequently to find a depleted wireless mouse, which isn’t ideal. It probably isn’t a problem for anyone who can remember to charge it or turn off their computer. However, as is always the case with battery life, it depends on how you use it. In this situation, adjusting the battery settings in Roccat’s Swarm program and the brightness of the RGB lighting can help you get a little bit longer life.

A 19K DPI optical sensor, 2.4GHz gaming-grade wireless networking, Bluetooth 5.2 for reduced latency-sensitive applications, a 100-hour battery life, and support for NVIDIA Reflex are all features of the Burst Pro Air. In addition, Roccat Burst Pro Air crammed four-zone RGB lighting beneath the shell and gave it their brand-new Titan Optical Switch technology for unmatched speed and accuracy.
