There is no denying that the foes in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: How to Beat Lynels. Even though there is a chance to avoid enemies like Hinox and Gleeok in the overworld, you may want to harvest their parts for elixirs and upgrades later on in the game. However, this is a task that is much simpler to describe than it is to complete.
Before charging headfirst into a fight with a miniboss scale foe like Lynels or Gleeok or even Hinox, you should first identify the specific vulnerabilities that each of these enemies possesses. If you’re reading this, it’s unfortunate to say, but Lynels have some of the most difficult weaknesses to exploit. Fortunately, there are a few strategies you can employ to emerge victorious from a battle. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the following is a guide on how to defeat Lynels.
What Are Lynels?
Lynels are an adversary from Breath of the Wild that have made a return appearance, and they are every bit as dangerous as they were before. In essence, a monstrous centaur that has been armed to the teeth with some of the most powerful weapons that Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has to offer and has health bars to match. These guys are hands down the most powerful enemies in the game that aren’t the bosses. In all honesty, defeating them is even more difficult than most of the game’s bosses.
Where to find Lynels in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Lynels can be found all over Hyrule, both on the surface and in the Depths. But we haven’t seen any in the Depths yet. We’ve found 10 Lynels on the surface of Hyrule so far, and as we find more, we’ll add them to this page. If you want to farm Lynels, go to the Floating Coliseum just north of the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Central Hyrule Depths. Here, you have to fight five Lynels one after the other. Here’s a map of all the places we’ve found Lynel in Tears of the Kingdom so far:
- West Hyrule Plains (Hyrule Ridge)
- Between Tanagar Canyon and Illumeni Plateau (Hyrule Ridge)
- Upland Lindor (Hyrule Ridge)
- Near Tama Pond (Tabantha Frontier)
- Near Lake Kilsie (Hebra Mountains)
- North Akkala Valley (Deep Akkala)
- Ukuku Plains (Akkala Highlands)
- Rabia Plain (West Necluda)
- Near Quatta’s Shelf (Lanayru Wetlands)
How to Complete the Unveiled Quest
- Get as many hard-hitting melee weapons as you can
- Stock up on arrows and bows
- Aim for the Lynel’s head to stun it
- Once stunned, go for the kill and hit it as fast as you can
- If you are in melee range, aim for a perfect dodge to trigger a flurry of attacks

You can get a prompt to mount the Lynel by pressing A if you are able to sneak up behind it without it noticing, just like you would if you were taming a horse. However, unlike a horse, you can use this to hit it multiple times in the head before it throws you off.
The Silver-Maned Lynels are the most challenging of the various types of Lynels that Link will encounter during the first playthrough of Breath of the Wild on any given system.
