Incidentally, Bambarakanda Waterfall is the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, reaching a height of 263 m (863 ft). It also holds the record as the 299th highest waterfall in the world.

Interestingly, this waterfall is formed at the end of a huge stream called Kuda Oya, which branches off from the Walawe River. The waterfall looks spectacular from a distance and can be reached via a footpath amidst dense pine forests that leads to a pool at the base of the waterfall. The upper part of the waterfall is accessible only by four-wheel drive vehicles for safety reasons.

Baker’s Waterfalls

While on vacation in Sri Lanka, be sure to include a visit to Horton Plains, a famous National Park in Sri Lanka. This is a 9 km nature trail with a breathtaking viewpoint known as World’s End.

On this trail you will come across Bakers Falls, named after its discoverer – Sir Samuel Baker. Surrounded by magnificent mountains that form a wonderful backdrop, the ice-cold water that plunges into the depths forms a curtain of mist.

Bopath Ella

The shape of a “BO” leaf makes Bopath Ella unique and one of the best waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Although it is a major tourist attraction in the country, locals believe that it holds a treasure chest. Among the many picturesque waterfalls in Sri Lanka, Bopath Ella has the most visitors as it is located near Devipahala at Kuruwita on the A4 High-Level Road near Ratnapura.

The most striking feature is the shape of the waterfall, which forms between two tiny rocks and then spreads out to form an impressive waterfall. Heart-shaped waterfalls at a height of 30 meters entice passing tourists to linger and captivate their hearts.

Dunhinda Falls

Dunhinda waterfall is one of the most fascinating waterfalls in Sri Lanka. When it plunges into the pool from a height of 64 meters, it offers a magnificent spectacle. This waterfall is located on the Mahiyangana Road in Sri Lanka.

This paradise is only 5 kilometers away from the city of Badulla. As you walk through Dunhinda Waterfall, you will see many local vendors selling local herbal drinks for refreshment.

Laxapana Falls

Laxapana Waterfall is a beautiful, picturesque waterfall near the town of Hatton in the district of Nuwara Eliya. With a height of 126 meters, Laxapana Waterfall is the eighth highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 625th highest waterfall in the world!

At the base of the waterfall is a stunning natural plunge pool where you can dive in to cool off after descending the well-maintained stairs. The force with which the water thunders down is impressive, leaving a silvery foam that makes the waterfall very photogenic! Definitely one of our favorite waterfalls in Sri Lanka.

Kirindi Ella Waterfall

Be enchanted by the picturesque paradise around Kirindi Ella Waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the highlands of Sri Lanka. Located near Pelmadulla in Ratnapura district, the name “Kirindi” means “pearl” and is a tribute to the beautiful landscapes and lush forest surrounding the waterfall.

The 116-meter Kirindi Ella waterfall features interesting rock formations and soothing waters in the pool below, where visitors can take a refreshing dip. It is a popular place to enjoy the sun during the day and watch the sunset at dusk.

Diyaluma Waterfall

6 km from Koslanda, in Badulla district, Diyaluma waterfall flows towards KirindiOya, below a bridge on the road from Beragala to Wellawaya. With a height of 220 meters, Diyaluma is the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, a beautiful cascade that flows forever in the wilderness.

The name Diyaluma translates to “swift flow of water,” and the waterfall lives up to that name. Also, if you are looking for unique camping experiences in Sri Lanka, be sure to visit the top of Diyaluma Waterfall!

Devon Ella

The waterfall is located in the Devon Tea Plantation and is fed by the Kothmmaleoya, a tributary of the Mahaveli. Several cascades add to its magnificence, and an expansive area in front of it emphasizes the waterfall’s colossal proportions. Devon, often referred to as the “veil of the valley,” is 97 meters high and 1,140 meters above sea level. It is the 19th highest mountain in the country.

Devon Ella was named after an English coffee pioneer named Devon. It is located 6 km west of Thalawakale in Nuwara Eliya district. If you are looking for an adventure, you can descend through the tea plantation to the base of Devon. Check with the locals to find the best route.

Lover’s Leap waterfall

Nestled in the lush green landscape of Nuwara Eliya is the Lover’s Leap waterfall. At 30 meters high, it is a beautiful small but picturesque waterfall that offers sweeping views of the tea plantations and Nuwara Eliya.

You can hike to the top of the waterfall via Pedro Tea Factory to enjoy the sweeping views of the Nuwara Eliya countryside, or you can admire the waterfall from afar. The enchanting Lover’s Leap waterfall in Nuwara Eliya is an attraction that is definitely worth a visit!

Elgin Falls

The beautiful Elgin Waterfall was named after the town of Elgin in Moray in Scotland. The waterfall is picturesque to see when you take the train from Nanu Oya to Ambewela.
