Apple New Patent may Reveal a No-Notch iPhone 14 Pro

The device described in the patent application comprises a camera, an IR light transmitter, and a “light folding element” that can refocus IR light. The application explains how a light-folded projector can be used to lessen the components’ footprint and increase the phone’s display area. A selfie camera, an infrared camera, a depth sensor, and a dot projector are among the technologies currently housed in the notch, which Apple previously reduced by 20% with the iPhone 13 series last year. However, Apple claims that with the help of this patent, it may combine some of these technologies to minimize the size of the notch.

If you’re interested (and you should be), here’s an excerpt from the description of the patent claims. if you’re curious (and we’ve included the application at the end of this article if you’d like to browse it): Because the light folding element can change the direction of transmission of the IR light, the IR light transmitter is not necessarily limited to a particular installation location. Instead, the IR light transmitter can be placed in a location with less confined space and use the light folding element to project the IR light in a specific direction.

This can reduce the overall size of the imaging and sensing components, thereby reducing the size of a recess to accommodate the imaging and sensing components and increasing the display area of the device. However, the publication of this application by the USPTO is not a guarantee that an Apple device will make advantage of the technology. Other indications, however, suggest that the notch region of the upcoming professional iPhones will be drastically modified.

The fact that Apple’s “Apple Whisperer” Mark Gurman claimed the company would switch to a selfie camera with a hole-punching notch and pill-shaped notch may be the greatest proof of this. A potential iPhone 14 without a notch was also hinted at by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo only days before the iPhone 13 reached store shelves. Take these pictures with a grain of salt. Uncertainty surrounds their origin, but at least the photographs provide a glimpse of what the new design may look like. DuanRui claims on his profile that the majority of his work is shared on Chinese social media.
