How to Set Up Passkeys on Mac

We won’t get into the weeds here, but Apple, Google, and Microsoft have all committed to supporting the FIDO standard and replacing passwords with a more secure alternative. Apple Passkey is Apple’s implementation of the standard. Apple Passkey is supported for the first time in iOS 16 and macOS 13. Apple Passkey eliminates the need to enter a username and password to sign in to apps and websites that support the standard. The system is easier for us to use, but much more secure in the background. In this article we will try to teach you how to Set Up Passkeys on Mac

When you use a passkey to sign up for an account on a website, a pair of cryptographic keys is created. One, a public key, is stored on the server of the website you are logging into. The other, a private key, is stored on your Mac and synced to iCloud so it’s available across all your devices. The next time you sign in to the account, all you have to do is authenticate with Touch ID on your Mac, or with Touch ID or Face ID on an iPhone or iPad. Once you have done this, you can access your account.

Final Words

So here we conclude our article on how to use Passkeys on MacBook. Until now, apps and website developers have had to add support for the FIDO standard before using Apple passkeys to access it. This probably won’t happen anytime soon, and it may take longer for third-party apps to roll out this feature.
