  • To open a new menu, click the Smiley Face icon at the bottom right of the update status area.
  • Choose any emoji you would like to add to your Facebook status. You can quickly jump to other kinds of emoji by clicking on the categories at the bottom of the menu, or you can scroll through the long list and take your time picking your favourites.
  • When you are done adding emojis to the text box, click the Smiley Face again to close the menu. If you want to keep working on your post, you can add text in front of or behind any emojis.
  • When you are done, click the Post button to send the emoji and your status update to all your Facebook friends.

Use Emojis in Facebook Comments and Private Messages

Emojis can also be used in the comments section of Facebook and in Facebook and Messenger private messages:

  • Click where you want to post the emoji in the comment box.
  • To open the emoji menu, click the Smiley Face icon next to the comment box. When you choose one or more emoji, they appear right away in the comment box.
  • To close the menu and finish writing the comment, click the Smiley Face icon again. You can add text wherever you want, before or after the emoji, or not at all. Use the Enter key to post the comment normally.

Use Emojis in Facebook Messenger for Mobile

You are using Facebook Messenger on your phone or tablet, right? You can almost always get to the emoji menu the same way:

  • Tap to start a new conversation or open the one you want to use an emoji in.
  • Pick the small Smiley Face icon to the right of the text box.
  • Go to the EMOJI tab in the new menu that appears below the text box. The most recently used emoji are on the first page of the EMOJI tab. Swipe to the right to see everything.
  • You can choose an emoji or more than one by tapping them again and again without leaving the menu.
  • Tap the Smiley Face again to get rid of the menu and keep working on your message.
  • To send the message with emoji, tap the “Send” button.
