How to Use Multiple Email Signatures in Gmail

Tired of switching signatures? This guide unlocks Gmail's hidden power of personalized email endings

Gmail, also known as Google Mail, only lets you add one signature to new emails or answers by default. This method seems to work fine for private messages, but it might not be the best choice for business messages. In this article we will show you how to Use Multiple Email Signatures in Gmail.

If you have already used Microsoft Outlook, you may have noticed that it lets you use multiple signatures that you can choose from based on the situation. You will learn how to do the same thing in Gmail in this post.

You need to turn on an add-on for Gmail called Templates, which is the tricky part of the setting. Canned Responses, which later changed its name to “Canned Responses (Templates)”, gave rise to this feature. Why are canned answers not the same as templates? Templates are pretty much the same, except for the name.

What is multiple signature?

A “multiple signature” basically means that you can use Gmail to make more than one email name. It’s possible to include customised sections that are relevant to different cases, as we already said. Basically, this is meant to give you options in case you need to do different things for different jobs.

As an example, let’s say you work full-time at a company and also handle freelance clients. That’s why you might want to add a part called “Freelance,” where you can list contacts and websites that are only about your freelancing business. You can also choose to delete this completely and leave it blank.

Why Would You Want Multiple Signatures in Gmail?

  • It’s best to keep business and personal emails separate, so for personal emails, it’s fine to use a less formal greeting.
  • As working from home grows around the world, you might need to talk to people who speak different languages. When you text someone, it makes sense to have different signatures for each language they speak.
