Deal on GoPro HERO9: Get this for $294.99, which is 16% off

The GoPro Hero 9 Black is the most powerful and flexible action camera you can buy, but its predecessor is a better deal for most people. Even though the new sensor and front display are useful, the changes are not a big step forward from the Hero 8 Black. It’s also a little annoying that its touchscreen doesn’t always work right, even though a firmware fix is on the way.

The Hero 9 Black has a set of skills that can’t be matched by any other action, but other actions are more valuable right now. The Hero9 has a new body that’s a bit bigger than the previous model, but it’s still one of the smallest 4K cameras on the market and the smallest we’ve seen that can record in 5K, measuring just 2.8 by 2.2 by 1.3 inches (HWD) and weighing 5.6 ounces.

Features:

  • Up to 5K quality at 30fps
  • Front-facing color LCD
  • Exceptional video stabilization
  • Up to 240fps HD slow motion
  • Time-lapse, buffering, and HDR imaging
  • USB-C charging

The bigger frame has a bigger battery, a bigger touch LCD on the back (2.3 inches), and a color display on the front, just like the competitor DJI Osmo Action, so you can keep your framing set when recording selfies for vlogs and other things. Mounting clips are built into the frame and fold into the body for storage. When the clips are folded in, the Hero9 can stand up on a flat surface.

This kind of small camera works best when it’s attached to something, like the front of your surfboard or a selfie stick. The camera is tough and can be used in water. It can be submerged up to 33 feet without a protective case, and its outside is tough enough to survive drops and tumbles without (too much) worry.

On the back, there is only a small bezel around the screen. The view is a little bit bigger than with the Hero8, but it’s not a huge improvement. It’s just a good use of space. The interface hasn’t changed since the Hero8. You can easily access a number of customizable video presets, which is a plus given how many options there are for resolution and frame rate.

How to get GoPro Hero9 Camera?

The Hero9 is different from the Hero8 in that it has a larger 23.6MP sensor that lets you record video at resolutions up to 5K/30 fps instead of just 4K/60 fps with the Hero8. The camera did a good job of catching my daughter’s bright yellow and pink dress as she ran through a green forest. It was a little too bright, though, so the yellows were a little washed out.
