Deal on Samsung Galaxy Watch 5: now get 20% on this smartwatch

In the world of smartwatches, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 doesn’t do anything new, but it is the best Android watch you can buy right now. Compared to last year’s models, it has a bigger battery, a more durable design, and a new temperature sensor, but you can’t use it yet. It looks and feels a lot like the Galaxy Watch 4 from last year, so it’s a small update rather than a big change.

You may remember that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 had a new look and feel compared to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 last year. It was still sporty and reminded me of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, but the case was nicer and the straps went from one watch to the next without a hitch. The Galaxy Watch 5 still has a bit of a sporty look, but I found that changing the watch face gave it enough variety.

Features:

  • Snappy performance
  • Better fit and longer durability than the Galaxy Watch 4
  • Wide selection of Google and third-party apps
  • Text input, keyboard and dictation work very well

The addition of a temperature analysis sensor, which seems to be separate from Samsung’s 3-in-1 BioActive sensor, is the most interesting new thing on the inside of the Galaxy Watch 5. BIA (bioelectrical impedance analysis) lets the BioActive sensor read your heart rate, SpO2, and body composition. It came out last year. The skin-temperature reader on the bottom of the Galaxy Watch is a little off-center.

The skin-temperature reader won’t work at launch, which is a shame. So, Samsung has made it clear what the skin temperature sensor on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 will do. I can’t help but wish I could try it now, but once it’s live, it will be worth trying out. Pressure is also on because both the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Fitbit Sense 2 have features that are powered by a sensor that measures the temperature of the skin.

How to get Samsung Galaxy Watch 5?

You might think that because the Watch 5 has Wear OS, it syncs with Google Fit. It does, but not by default. This is a Samsung Health device right out of the box, and Samsung Health doesn’t work with Google Fit. You can, however, install Google Fit and change your default settings, but then you won’t be able to use the built-in metrics that Samsung’s Watch is known for, like sleep and body composition. Starting with sleep, the new sleep tracking system from Samsung Health gives you more detailed advice and promises to give you better insights into your sleep. It even gives you a month-long sleep plan.
