Now Turtle Beach Recon 200 Gen 2 in just $44.99 at Best Buy

With the introduction of new consoles comes the need to update your accessories. For this reason, Turtle Beach has introduced a series of generation updates for some of its previous headsets. These new headsets are basically the familiar headsets of the previous models, but tweaked for improved performance and optimization for the newer consoles – for those lucky enough to purchase them. The Recon 200 Gen 2 is the latest incarnation of the versatile headset from a few years ago.

It has received a few changes and updates, but otherwise remains the same headset at the same price. The Recon 200 Gen 2 features 40mm drivers with enhanced bass boost. For a more immersive experience, this headset is also capable of spatial audio through technologies like Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos or DTS Headphone: X and Sony 3D Audio.

It is an amplified headset that can be charged for 12 hours via an included USB Type-C cable, making the sound louder and fuller. Unlike other amplified headsets, the Recon 200 Gen 2 continues to function as a passive headset with a 3.5mm input when it runs out of juice during a gaming session. The extra sound of the amplifier is then no longer present, but the player can continue the session for as long as he wants, and has the opportunity to coordinate his strategy with his teammates and taunt his opponents.

In addition to the amplified, bass-boosting drivers, the Recon 200 Gen 2 has all the other features Turtle Beach puts into its headsets, including noise-canceling TruSpeak technology that allows for clear communication during the aforementioned coordination or taunting.

The ear cushions are made of breathable memory foam that keeps the headset from getting too hot during extended gaming sessions, and a metal-reinforced, lightweight headband provides comfort. The microphone can be muted, which is handy since the volume controls for audio and microphone are separate. It also features the ProSpecs design, where you can comfortably wear glasses while using this headset. The Recon 200 Gen 2 is available in black, white, and midnight blue. The Recon 200 Gen 2 functions as a passive headset, but shines when the amplifier is turned on.

The active sound boost makes everything louder, fuller, and adds weight to the bass. There is a switch on the left earcup, if you leave it in the middle the headset is in passive mode, up is PS and down is for Xbox. If you remember how the Stealth 300 worked a few years ago, the main volume is set lower on the PlayStation 4, which is why the headset came in versions with green or blue lighting for that console.

This wired headset worked with both consoles, but they were optimized differently. If the headset was to be used with PC or Switch, it was recommended to use the Xbox model. With the Recon 200, that’s not a problem, as one model works for both, but ideally you should set it to PS for a PlayStation console and Xbox for everything else. At least that’s what you should probably do.
