Gulabo Sitabo Director Shoojit Sircar Suggests That People Go For A Social Media Detox

In an era where mobile phones and social media addiction is becoming a topic of concern for most of us, the filmmaker Shoojit Sircar suggests that we should go for detox.

The “Piku” director feels at least when in a party or an appointment, we should try to avoid to click selfies and post them on social media. Instead, we can try to engage a conversation.

Sircar expressed his thoughts on Twitter: “the Next time you host a party or a meeting, or a general addaa gup shup, the prohibition of mobile phones. Do not let anyone. No selfies, no social media, just pure man-to-man gup shup. It is the fullness of the try.”

The filmmaker’s thoughts remind us of a dialogue from 2018 Bengali film “Amu”, directed by Srijit Mukherji, where the father (played by Jisshu Sengupta) advises her daughter to stay away from the Internet. When the child protests, the father explains: “It is neither water nor oxygen. Earlier, we had friends of flesh and blood, not virtual. We shared tiffin, no updates. We followed on the bikes, not on Twitter. We loved the people and the thoughts of our hearts, not clicks”.

On the plan of the work, Shoojit Sircar has two films releasing this year. His family comedy-drama “Gulabo Sitabo”, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, hits theaters on April 17, while the Vicky Kaushal-starrer biographical drama “Sardar Udham Singh” is slated for a Gandhi Jayanti release.
