Don’t touch my tabs!: review description

Did you know that whenever you click on a hyperlink that opens a page in a new tab, the new page is able to control which page is loaded in the previous tab?

“Why is this bad for me?” This is how advertisers bother you to the max, or worse, how a hacker could replace the previous tab with a bogus login page from the service you are browsing from when you follow a link to a wrong webpage.

“That’s no good! What now?” The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) decided that something needed to be created to prevent this from happening, and the “rel = noopener” attribute was born. can be added to any hyperlink to prevent the new window from going to the previous window object.

“Soft!” Well, here’s the catch: because they didn’t want to “break the internet” it became an optional attribute that developers and web designers must add to every hyperlink in order to protect you. This means that billions of hyperlinks that do not offer us this protection have to be fixed manually and let’s be honest, this is not going to happen.

“Break the Internet? But… my safety! Well, they have a point of sorts, since some web apps use this feature, it would break those web apps if they just changed how hyperlinks work.

“And now?” I have created a simple browser extension to solve this problem for you. When you add this extension to your browser, just add the attribute “rel = noopener” to any hyperlink that opens a page in a new tab or window.

“But isn’t that going to ‘break my internet’?” No! Because when a hyperlink points to a webpage hosted on the same domain name you are on, it will NOT add the rel = noopener attribute. Neat eh?

“Does that do anything else?” No that’s all! :]I just want to share this with the rest of the internet.

Prevent hyperlinked tabs from hijacking the previous tab by adding the rel = noopener attribute to all hyperlinks (excluding hyperlinks in the same domain).
