4 PlayStation games that deserve the director’s cuts

Director’s cuts of Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding are on the way, but there are plenty of other great exclusives that deserve similar updates.

This trend of updating and expanding upon games is one that Sony needs to embrace, by bringing more of the PlayStation 4’s library of incredible exclusives to the new system. Here are four games that could benefit from Director’s Cut rereleases for PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 5 has been out for over six months now, and an interesting trend is developing. Two of the PlayStation 4’s games, Kojima Production’s Death Stranding and Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima, are coming to PS5 with Director’s Cuts. These will improve the games’ fidelity and performance, while also adding new content.

Horizon Zero Dawn

In addition to performance updates, a Horizon Zero Dawn Director’s Cut could capitalize on the new console’s unique features. For instance, the adaptive triggers on the DualSense would be perfect for Horizon Zero Dawn’s bow-heavy combat, giving players added immersion and control. Guerilla Games could also add new armor sets and a new bow type for players to wield, further adding to this colorful and unique sci-fi world full of excitement and discovery.

While Guerilla Games’ next entry in this fantastic science-fiction series is due sometime this year, Horizon Zero Dawn remains one of the PlayStation 4’s most impressive achievements. Horizon Zero Dawn introduced the incredible protagonist Aloy and her dystopian tribal world ruled by robotic animals.

Uncharted 4

Another impressive entry in the PlayStation 4’s exclusive library, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End wowed critics and fans when it released in 2016. Uncharted 4 gave Nathan Drake closure on his adventures, and developer Naughty Dog made sure the charismatic adventurer went out with a bang in arguably his best story yet.

An updated release of Uncharted 4 could not only wow players with improved visuals and performance, but also include one of the best spinoffs in video game history. The Lost Legacy gave players a new adventure starring side character Chloe Frazer and Uncharted 4 villain Nadine Ross teaming up as unlikely allies, delivering a personal and thrilling adventure. By combining these two great games on the PlayStation 5, Sony could have Uncharted once again top the best PlayStation exclusives list. The Last Of Us Part II

Developer Naughty Dog has closed out the last two PlayStation consoles with genre-defining The Last of Us games. The Last of Us Part II is the most acclaimed game of all time, winning more Game of the Year awards than any other due to its gripping story, incredible performances and thrilling gameplay. The Last of Us Part II coming to PlayStation 5 in an updated release seems likely. Naughty Dog remastered the first game to great success on the PS4 and has already announced it is working on a multiplayer component that wasn’t ready for the original release. A Director’s Cut would likely combine the brilliant game with a new Factions multiplayer mode. Bloodborne

While a TLOU2 rerelease is likely, many PlayStation fans would like to see FromSoftware’s 2015 masterpiece Bloodborne receive an upgraded port. As of yet, the developers have been excruciatingly silent about what might be in store for one of the PlayStation 4’s most beloved games. A Bloodborne Director’s Cut that brought the base game and the Old Hunters DLC to PS5 could satisfy fans who crave more Souls-like games on the new console. Adding new weapons, armor sets and even bosses would only make it even better, helping a new generation of PlayStation fans fall in love with the gothic action-adventure all over again. These beloved games are just some of the many that would benefit from director’s cuts similar to the ones already announced. While the PS5 already has a great library and backwards compatibility, older games deserve to benefit from the console’s success and new features as well. Such updates would be a great way to celebrate older games while creating new fans.
