1. Walz to Deploy Minnesota National Guard to Protect State Capitol from Threats of Violence
Gov. Tim Walz announced Tuesday, Jan.12, that he would deploy the Minnesota National Guard to protect the State Capitol and other landmarks from possible far-right violence that would be scheduled for this weekend.
The governor at a press conference outside the Minnesota History Center said he would issue an executive order on Wednesday calling on the National Guard to protect the Minnesota Capitol over concerns shared with him by state lawmakers.
Monday, Yahoo! News reported that federal officials were investigating threats of far-right violence slated for Sunday, Jan. 17 in Minnesota. Similar armed protests were planned across the country ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
