As per Monroe News, the Community Foundation of Monroe County recently awarded four grants totaling $19,700 to various organizations in the community.
The Genealogical Society of Monroe County received $1,200 from the Monroe County History Fund to purchase a printer, laptop, and accessories to improve their In retrospect efficiency and services to members. The organization plans to use these tools to create and edit documents, publications, spreadsheets, and presentations, as well as conduct research and communicate with members, researchers, and stakeholders.
Monroe County Opportunity Program Inc. was granted $5,000 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Plntng Seeds Arts & Culture Program at the Opportunity Center at the Arthur Lesow Community Center. The program aims to engage the community in arts and cultural programming by featuring murals at the Opportunity Center Sharing Garden and the Selma Rankins Garden. Additionally, the program will include an educational gathering with mural artists for seniors and youth.
The Overseas Veterans Association received $1,500 from the Harry R. McGovern Charitable Fund to build a roof over an outdoor area, providing visitors with protection from the elements during OVA’s events and presentations.
Finally, the River Raisin Centre for the Arts was awarded $12,000 from the Manausso Family Endowment Fund and the Rewarding Academic Excellence Summer Enrichment fund to provide scholarships for 60 students to attend the RRCCA’s annual Summer Theater Arts Camp. The camp offers students the opportunity to learn vocal music, drama and acting, dance and movement, and auditioning.
These grants will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the organizations and individuals they serve. The Plntng Seeds Arts & Culture Program, in particular, has been successful in engaging the community in art projects. Last summer, renowned Detroit-area artist Jake Dwyer painted a large farm mural on the side of the Monroe Beer Cooler in Monroe as part of the program’s inaugural year. The Monroe County Opportunity Program’s grant will allow the program to continue expanding and providing opportunities for community engagement through art.
The Community Foundation of Monroe County is committed to improving the lives of individuals and communities in the area. Their grants help support organizations that make a difference in the community, and they encourage others to get involved in their efforts to make a positive impact.
