You may think that Nikon cameras are expensive. And while this may be true, the fact is that if you know where to look – and we do – you can get fantastic shooters from this venerable manufacturer at amazing prices. We are always looking for the best prices for our favorite and cheap Nikon cameras. Whether you’re looking for an affordable DSLR camera, compact or bridge camera, we have put together our guide to the best deals on the best cameras.
Best Cheap Nikon Cameras
Some of the cameras on our list are special entry-level models, while others are more sophisticated shooters that have been on the market for some time, so they have a chance to lower their prices.
1. Nikon D3500
With the Nikon D3500, it is especially easy to work with. In addition to an “intelligent” fully automatic mode, a wide range of scene modes and effects are available. More unique is the Guide shooting mode, which serves as a kind of interactive photo course. With a powerful 24.2MP image sensor and processor, a generous ISO range (sensitivity), a fast maximum frame rate of 5 frames per second, and a high-resolution LCD screen, there is no shortage of quality.
However, it is not a touch-sensitive screen, and there is no tilt or swivel capability. Another drawback is that the autofocus is relatively slow in live view and movie recording mode, but overall the D3500 is currently the most attractive and best cheap Nikon camera on the market.
2. Nikon D5600
Ideal for sports and wildlife photography, the Nikon D5600 features an advanced 39-point autofocus system with the auto surface, dynamic range, and 3D tracking modes. The optional 18-140 mm (18-140 mm) VR kit lens is also ideal for this type of photography, with its “effective” zoom range of 27-210 mm and its expert vibration reduction system (optical image stabilization). And if you need to go hiking in the wild to photograph wildlife, or stand for long periods of time at a sporting event, the D5600 won’t weigh you down, as it’s one of the lightest and most compact DSLRs on the market. Overall, this is one of the best cheap Nikon cameras.
3. Nikon COOLPIX W150
Okay, she’s not going to win anybody’s camera of the year, and some of these custom color jobs are certainly… interesting. But if you’re looking for a decent, well-made, waterproof camera at a, frankly, fantastic price, the Nikon Coolpix W150 is an excellent choice. It’s waterproof up to 10 meters, it’s great for family trips to the beach because it’s tough enough to take a few bumps from clumsy kids, and with a 30-90mm zoom lens it takes decent 13MP pictures and can shoot Full HD video. If you want a little more shooting power, consider the Nikon Coolpix W300, a more sophisticated underwater shooter at a higher price. Overall, this is one of the best cheap Nikon cameras.
4. Nikon D5300
Although the D5300 has been replaced by the D5600 (above), the D5300 will continue to be sold, but at a lower price – making it an affordable option. It retains most of the features we’ve come to appreciate on the upper-end D5000 cameras series, such as a 3.2-inch flip-out screen, a 39-point AF system, and a respectable 5fps continuous shooting mode, along with Full HD video up to 50/60p and a sensor without a low-pass filter for better detail. Overall, this is one of the best cheap Nikon cameras.
5. Nikon COOLPIX A1000
While it may have been a bit overpriced when it was introduced, the Nikon Coolpix A1000 is now available for less than $500, making it a very tempting prospect for traveling photographers. 35x optical zoom is nothing to sniff, and it can be digitally enhanced with Nikon’s Dynamic Fine Zoom technology. The company has even packed 4K video into the slim body of this camera, and unlike the previous A900, this camera can capture images in RAW format, making it suitable for both serious photographers and casual photographers.
6. Nikon D7500
The D7500 borrows some of the speed of Nikon’s top-of-the-line APS-C D500 and some of the affordability of the D7200 below to provide a deliberate blend of performance and value. Nikon’s 20.9 MP sensor can be found here, sacrificing nearly 4 MP compared to its older 24 MP unit, but it brings improved overall performance and image quality along with 4K video and advanced high ISO capabilities. You also get a pivoting rear touch screen and 8 fps continuous shooting. The result is a camera that has no obvious flaws in any area. Overall, this is one of the best cheap Nikon cameras.
7. Nikon D3400
Nikon‘s entry-level D3400 is a small, very affordable, and easy-to-use DSLR that combines a simple exterior layout with a high degree of manual operation under the hood. Based on a 24.2 MP APS-C sensor and an EXPEED 4 processing engine, the camera is usually offered as part of a set with the retractable AF-P NIKKOR 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 G VR lens 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 G (you can find it cheaper with the non-VR lens, but it’s really not worth saving). If you are looking for your first steps in photography and don’t want to leave too big a dent in your bank account, this may be the best cheap Nikon camera you can buy right now.
8. Nikon COOLPIX AW130
The Nikon COOLPIX AW130 is a well-designed compact camera that can shoot to a depth of 30 meters underwater without additional housing. Although the images may have a higher noise level than other compact cameras, the image quality is generally good – and of course, the AW130 can be used with other cameras. It is rugged and durable and has well-rounded features such as Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, a 24-120 mm (35 mm equivalent) lens, Full HD video recording, geotagging, an integrated world map, compass, depth gauge, and altimeter. If you are looking for one of the best cheap Nikon cameras that perform well underwater, the COOLPIX AW130 is your best choice.
