CHARLESTON – Local health services and Senate Democratic leaders fear that a bill to oversee local health services could interfere with public health and erode the morale of overworked health officials.
Senate Bill 12 is due to pass today in the State Senate. It was moved to third reading with the right to modify it on Monday.
SB 12 would give county commissioners and municipal governments a non-voting seat on county and city health boards. It also gives county and city governments the power to approve or reject any rule or part of a rule created by a local health board, except for health emergencies. In these cases, county and city governments would have 30 days to approve these emergency rules once published.
