Shatrughan on Dilip Saab not getting Bharat Ratna

Must Read

Shatrughan Sinha is absolutely sad. His ‘Kranti’ co-actor, Dilip Kumar – whom many say is the best actor Indian cinema has ever produced – left the world of life he revered (Dilip Kumar’s Wednesday , died on July 7, 2021). Speaking exclusively to ETimes, Sinha said, “The last mogul of cinema is gone. We lost Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand in 1988 and 2011 respectively, and mind you, the wounds of those losses are yet to heal.” These three had such a strong personality. With the passing of the rarest actor Dilip Kumar, the show will go on but will never be the same again.” Shatrughan Sinha wonders why Dilip Kumar was largely confined to being called the ‘tragedy king’. “He was a master of timing. And when you talk of timing, it means comedy. Dilip sahab was equally good at comedy, if you have seen ‘Azad’ and ‘Ganga Jamuna’. To name just two for.” Sinha also remembers how his son Kush was mesmerized when he first came to know about the making of ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. “Dilip sahib wore 80 kg armor while doing many heavy scenes. Nowadays, perhaps even half a kg no one knows (Nowadays, I don’t think he even wears 1/2 kg armor).” Recalling the thespian, Sinha recalls from the sets of ‘Kranti’. “I will always cherish the compliments that Dilip sahab gave me when we worked together. I was sitting behind him and he didn’t know it. Dilip sahab was given a long dialogue to say and he Put it aside and said ‘Have you got us Shatrughan Sinha who will remember this long dialogue in ten minutes (10 minutes)?’ (Do you think I am Shatrughan Sinha who can memorize long dialogues in 10 minutes?) I woke up and immediately hugged him. He said, ‘No brother, you hear about aap ten page dialogues ten’ Minute mein yaad kar lete ho’ (It is a fact and I have heard that you can speak a 10-page dialogue in 10 minutes).”

And of course, Sinha will never forget the trip she took with her family just a day before her son Kush’s wedding (January 2015) – see picture above. “Sairaji told me that he was unwell and he would not be able to attend. I told him that we were coming to his place so that he could bless my son. Just a day before Luv tied the knot we Went there. I always have vivid memories of placing my hand on my son’s head to bless Dilip Sahab,” and added, “Also, I especially remember Dilip Sahab’s 94th birthday. Dharmendra and I have long Sitting in his place for a long time and talking.” Sinha told that not only did Dilip Kumar love to cook but also to cook. “Don’t forget his great social work while serving in the National Association for the Blind, add to this his chivalry and grace. He has been imitated by many people of all generations, including him and the generations to come. He is truly one Sanstha. Emotion. If anyone tried to do any drama in life, he was told ‘Kya tu aapko Dilip Kumar Samjhauta hai kya? (You think you are Dilip Kumar?)” Last but certainly not least No less, Sinha sharply pointed out that Dilip Kumar had not been awarded the Bharat Ratna. He concluded, “I don’t want to compare Dilip sahab with many others who have received the coveted award.” Dilip Kumar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
