A square culvert is installed behind the old fire station on Allen Street. It is one of four bridges addressed under a block grant for community development.
Bonne Terre city council last week discussed several ongoing projects, including partnerships with local business organizations and the replacement of community development grant bridges.
City administrator Shawn Kay said council had discussed the possibility of bidding for the completion of the Dover Street project, in which water pipes have been relocated.
“It doesn’t mean the board will do it, but we’ll make an offer and see what the cost will be,” he said. “It takes forever to get there because I have three guys to pour concrete and they can’t devote to it every day because they do other projects all over town. Essentially, the street department is my concrete team. “
The block grant project for community development has started. One of the bridges was demolished and a culvert was installed behind the old fire station on Allen Street. Three more bridges will be upgraded or replaced with the grant, with more work scheduled to begin Feb. 3.
The council also passed a resolution supporting the transport Alternative Request for a grant from the program that the owners of downtown Bonne Terre and the Bonne Terre Chamber of Commerce are working to make by Friday. The $ 380,000 project would install new sidewalks and lampposts on Long Streets in Division, along School Street.

Transportation Alternative The program grant application is offered by the Missouri Department of Transportation. Awarded projects will be funded with a maximum of 80% federal funds and require a minimum of 20% local counterpart. A project must request a minimum of $ 100,000 in federal reimbursement. The maximum federal reimbursement is $ 400,000. Bonne Terre City Council has agreed to manage the corresponding part of the grant, which would amount to approximately $ 150,000. Kay said they expected to hear the results in March.
