MILTON – A Brockton budget official will become the city’s first chief financial officer later this month.
City administrator Michael Dennehy introduced Karen Preval as the city’s chief financial officer and city accountant at Wednesday night’s select committee meeting.
Preval brings two decades of municipal finance experience to the city. She has been Brockton’s budget manager for two years. Previously, she spent 15 years working for the City of Cambridge, first as a Tax Project Manager in the Public Works Department, then as a Senior Management Analyst. She started her career working for eight years in the private sector.
She holds a BA in Accounting from Boston University and an MBA from Curry College.
Preval succeeds former city accountant Amy Dexter, who has joined the school department as assistant superintendent of business affairs.
She starts her new job on January 25.
