In this news, we discuss the Disneyland reopening on hold as California delays theme park guidelines.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The California Health Secretary agreed to hear more comments from theme park operators on Friday before issuing guidelines to reopen, a step that further delays Walt’s DIS.N project Disney Co.
Disney executive chairman Bob Iger also resigned from a California task force on reopening businesses during the coronavirus pandemic, the Sacramento Bee newspaper reported Thursday. No reason was given and Disney did not respond to requests for comment.
Earlier this week, Disney said the continued shutdown of Disneyland has increased financial pressure on its parks division due to the pandemic. The company, which is laying off 28,000 workers, has urged California to let Disneyland reopen.
On Thursday, a business group that represents Disneyland, CMCSA.O Universal Studios, Comcast Corp and others, said it had reviewed the California draft guidelines and then asked the state to hear more from industry recommendations.
California health secretary Dr Mark Ghaly said on Friday he would continue talks with theme park operators.
“Given the size and operational complexity of these unique industries, we are seeking additional contributions from healthcare, workforce and business actors to finalize this important framework – all geared towards science and security, ”Ghaly said in a statement.
Disneyland has been closed since March. The company had announced that the station would reopen on July 17, but then delayed the move indefinitely, saying it had to wait for state advice.
All other Disney theme parks, including Walt Disney World in Florida, have reopened with limited attendance, mask requirements, and other safety measures.
