In this news, we discuss the EU wins right to place tariffs on $4 billion U.S. goods in aircraft spat.
BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Union has won the right to impose tariffs on $ 4 billion of U.S. goods in retaliation for subsidies given to aircraft maker Boeing BA.N under a decision by the World Trade Organization (WTO) Tuesday.
The price, which partially reflects U.S. tariffs on Airbus jets and confirms a decision first reported by Reuters on September 30, threatens to reignite transatlantic trade tensions just three weeks before the U.S. presidential elections on November 3.
However, negotiators on both sides say it could also finally lead to talks to resolve a 16-year legal battle.
